Considering it’s not that big a rock, why not just retarget an ICBM “up”? This isn’t rocket sci...er...ehm..on second thought ;)
Seriously though, a couple megaton nuke could pretty much powderize that size a rock unless it was a chunk of iron. And I cannot believe that with modern targeting computers we would miss. It’s not like that thing will take evasive action.

It will probably just dissolve into a rock the size of a small Chihuahua.

This is lower than the geosynchronous orbit kept by the Google Maps satellite.Along with over a thousand other such satellites, about half of which are functioning, and all of which can be hit or at least have their orbits perturbed enough to cause problems.
GPS, weather, mapping, military, and civilian communications are major missions of these satellites.

They don’t have to give me an exact impact spot, just tell me which side of the planet it will hit. I can do the rest on my own...and I’m long overdue for a vacation.

If it is determined that it will hit the US, then we can send up an ICBM or two to break it up before it hits the atmosphere. The increased surface area will give the atmosphere, which is our best defense, more to work on.
In any case, it is not a “planet killer”.
They’ll probably know pretty accurately where it is going to hit in the weeks before impact.

The Shuttle could be renovated, upgraded and send to meet, greet and destroy this asteroid in 8 months which would be quite a Christmas present for the World..
Of course this effort would increate jobs, icrease our industrial output and would be a major "GREEN PROJECT' so Obomast would ignore this optiion!

More sobering asteroid thing than usual. Projected to fly by the earth at the distance of Google earth’s satellites.

Don't worry, Obama will apologize to it so it will leave us alone.
Or second defense scenario, paste holographic images of Michelle Obama’s face in front of it, and it will disintegrate into dust.
