As I think more about this, maybe Rush had no choice. Either his career is over, or he caves.
It’s not like there are independent radio stations and alternate syndication opportunities any longer.
If he gets dumped, he can’t get around not owning the network. Look what happened to Oprah and Beck. They are disappearing before our eyes.
Still, 20 million listeners a week is huge. But these corporate interests are not rational.
These are the same people that produce “R” rated movies by the truckload knowing that the rating is an automatic money disadvantage. The same people that produce christian bashing, military bashing, family bashing content; knowing it will fail financially.
“Its not like there are independent radio stations and alternate syndication opportunities any longer.”
Over the years Rush has dismissed anyone bringing up objections to the consolidation of the radio business, and the resulting domination of the airwaves by a small number of companies.
I suspect that he’s now learning why such a near-monopoly is a threat to free speech. When you had hundreds of independent stations around the country that could program as they pleased then it was much harder to enforce political correctness.
This shows the immense power of the MSM/progressives in this country, and the incredible handicap that conservatives have under this double standard.
