A Win In Georgia Heralds Ultimate Defeat for Newt Gingrich [Santorum "Can Take The Fight to Obama"]

A Win In Georgia Heralds Ultimate Defeat for Newt Gingrich Gingrich may win his home state, but Santorum has already beaten him for the role of conservative alternative to Romney

Newt Gingrich doesn't really have to try to make the sale in Georgia – though he has been barnstorming the state nonetheless, practicing the kind of retail politics that made him a representative of the state's sixth district for 20 years. In Savannah on Friday, Gingrich entertained the audience with an anecdote about having been a (honorary) Girl Scout, revealing yet another text – in addition to Alcoholic Anonymous' Big Book, Alvin Toeffler's Future Shock and Isaac Asimov's Foundation series – central to his thinking: the original Girl Scout handbook, How Girls Can Help Their Country.

Not surprisingly, given the gender politics of the GOP primary, that book was written in 1917; more striking is that much of its advice has yet to be taken to heart by the candidates. I'd like to bang the global-warming deniers around the head with this straightforward suggestion:

"However, we should keep our minds open, ready to accept new truths as they are brought to our attention. Science and knowledge are constantly advancing, and what we believe now, we may find, some years hence, to be only a part of the truth."

Still, the Girl Scout text is a rare foray into the past for Newt Gingrich, who favors "bold" ideas, "fundamental change" and "visionary solutions", relishing the skepticism that those marginal ideas bring.

It's ironic that Gingrich's appeal in Georgia stems almost entirely from how familiar he is.

Are you aware the UK Guardian is as braindead left as they come?

They and their little American lefty friends are scared to death of Newt Gingrich and would love nothing more than to make sure he ISN”T nominated.

Well, that sure was an interesting opinion piece!

What’s next? What Pravda or the Romanian Communist Party Newsletter have to say on the subject of Newt’s chances?

Too bad Newt won’t run for the House again.

Those people need a real leader with a spine.

A point to remember: neither the polls, nor the media, will ultimately decide who is the candidate.

A show en force by the American people is needed to remind the pollsters who still runs America...it's the people.

Romney is a RINO, Santorum is a whiner, Newt is the only one who can take on the big boys, and win.

After all of Santorum’s missteps and backtracking I think conservatives have realized that he’s not a man that’s going to take the fight to Obama. The idea that the UK Guardian has it’s finger on the pulse of conservatives is ridiculous.

GO NEWT!

In Savannah on Friday, Gingrich entertained the audience...

That's right. This rag summarizes Gingrich's appearance as "entertaining".

Sort of like the way the left (and now Santorum) call Rush an "entertainer".

It's diminishing.

"Recent polls show that Santorum is markedly more popular among those identifying as "very" conservative. In the most recent one (pdf), Santorum has a favorability rating among those hardcore Republicans of 60%. (Gingrich didn't make the survey cut.)" from something called Langer Research, whatever that is.

Meanwhile, Newt is gaining ground, Rasmussen daily tracking, 03.01.12:

The national survey of 1,000 Likely Republican Primary Voters was conducted on February 29, 2012 by Rasmussen Reports.

Seventy-one percent (71%) of likely primary voters nationally view Romney favorably, while 63% share a favorable opinion of Santorum. That’s a five-point improvement for Romney and a 12-point drop for Santorum from the previous survey.Gingrich is viewed favorably by 56% and Paul by 41%, marking virtually no change for either man from two weeks ago.

Romney and Paul remain the candidates considered least conservative by most GOP primary voters. Eighty-four percent (84%) rate Santorum at least somewhat conservative, and 72% think the same of Gingrich. Romney is considered at least somewhat conservative by 58%, and Paul is seen that way by 57%. But while Santorum is seen as Very Conservative by 49%, only eight percent (8%) view Romney that way.

Even better, Newt needs to run for GA senate. It’s been eons since a Congressmember was elected to the WH

I know: Let’s ask Steve Schmidt, Bob Shrum, Gary Younge and Cindy Sheehan what they think of Newt’s chances.

But even a broken left-wing clock can get it right two times a day. The arguments in the piece are irrefutable. It’s been blue-moons ago when a Congressmember was elected to the WH.

Then it’s about time isn’t it. Newt is the only hope for this nation.
