Did you see Eric Boling on Fox & Friends one morning when he showed a clip from a camera that had been placed in the Volt he was test driving? He lives 20 miles from Manhattan—probably Montclair NJ. He charged the battery for 12 hours, got into the Volt and drove into the city. The camera was aimed at the dash. At 18!!! miles the battery switched over to gas! He got the same result the 2nd day.
I drive a ‘97 Toyota Camry V-6. Many times I drove from Philadelphia to Cleveland, stopping for my first fill-up at the first gas station off the Ohio T/P airport exit. The tolls cost more than the gas! This was winter and summer, with A/C on when necessary! It’s still a “new car” to me—has 88,000 miles on it. Driven by a little old lady and in great shape. As gas climbed, I drove my husband’s 4 cylinder Camry.
I’ll bet must of those Volts were purchased by the Guvmint—price is no object when it comes to spending our money!
(My husband’s an engineer too.)
2004 4-cyl Camry w/~168000 miles...lifetime fuel economy: 32.5 mpg.
I am satisfied with that.
