I still have my doubts but assuming, for the moment, that we are confronting a "grand conspiracy", consider the scope of the audacity.

In order for it to succeed, they had to count on the press giving the project their full support -- and totally avoid any potential damaging glimpses into Obama's past.

Which, in their enthusiasm for "The First Black President", the media gleefully complied.

If the plot is ever exposed, it will also expose how the media was used!...and used in a way that should embarrass them deeply, ignorantly playing the role of the "Useful Idiots".

That is a major reason that if this is a conspiracy it will only be ventilated decades from now when it is of largely academic interest. The open secret of the phony Wilkie candidacy has only been acknowledged in the last decade or so and then only in a summary way. It has not gotten into the textbook narrative and is unlikely ever to do so.
