Santorum: That “snob” comment probably wasn’t the “smartest” thing I’ve ever said

Rick Santorum today attempted to take back comments in which he said Barack Obama is a “snob” because he wants to see as many Americans as possible go to college.

Speaking on CNN, Santorum said when he called Obama a snob, he was speaking more in terms of Obama’s larger policy agenda.

“I was giving a long riff about the president mandating things on people,” Santorum said Friday. “I was talking about the government and president mandating healthcare and, you know, what kind of loans we’re going to get.”

Santorum’s comment came in response to President Obama saying that every American should have the chance to go to college, a community college, vocational school or technical school.

“And so I was commenting on the general attitude of, as I do in all of my speeches, of top down, government knows best,” Santorum added. “And so I — I used the term snob. You know, it was a — it was a strong term, probably not the smartest thing.”

Santorum is a walking gaffe machine. It is difficult to understand how anyone could take him seriously as a national general election candidate. Rick would get slaughtered.

Why back down? Use the Dems class warfare tactic against them. It is “snobbish” to imply that it you can’t be successful if you don’t go to college. Come out and say that you are going to make a big push to build more technical training schools, bring back manufacturing jobs, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera.

Which is why he’d make a good V.P. for Newt. It’d be funny to watch them both bumble and fumble their way through the V.P. debate.

Has he walked back his praise for Barbara Boxer and Hillary Clinton yet?

Rick Santorum, Mr. Bipartisan Compromise – and Mr. Pro Wrestling?

It’s not about backing down. I don’t want to ever back down. But I do want to be intelligent about it and this was a friggin stupid thing to say.

The college experience today is not about snobbery. That was RS trying to be the ‘everyman.” The issue of college today is the financial corruption and the useless degrees and the liberal mind control.

It’s got nothing to do with snobbery or backing down. It’s about being intelligent and Rick was not at all. It was a stupid thing to say and off the main point to boot.

The media lead him right into their trap every time, and every time Santorum falls for it.
For such a smart guy, he sure doesn’t learn very quickly.
I hope the Santorum flavor of the month has finally passed.

It’s time for Newt to rise again, and for conservatives to get behind him, once and for all, if we stand a snowball’s chance in November.

The Republican primaries are shaping up to be the Monty Python Horse Race.

You know, it pretty clear that we conservatives will have to start working in areas of politics and society we don’t care to work in: I mean we need to get jobs as campaign managers, advisers, etc. Because these guys like Rick are getting some horrible advice. Really clueless advice.

I am convinced he is simply not that smart. He left wide open gaps in his “logic” all through the debates but since no one took him seriously, he was left un challenged on it. Now of course, those who did not take him seriously look silly as hell - and that would kind of be funny - except we face the real chance of this moderate disaster with only marginal ability being our friggin nominee.

He is a trained lawyer and politician with no real world experience, which is why he trips all over himself with his new found conservatism.

That’s not funny at all either.

Oh you’re right, but nothing compares to the awful advice Newt got.

Of course, ultimately the candidates are responsible for the bad advice they choose to take. But I’ve been inside a few times, including this cycle, and it’s worse than you can imagine.

It’s time for us all to turn into Breitbart. I mean, seriously, how much good has being civil done? About the same as apologizing to the terrorists at every turn.

The public is hungering for a leader, and politicians should stop pussyfooting around and stick by what they say. They should turn it around on the media and say “with all the problems this country is facing, you’re focusing on what I called Obama? Talk about being out of touch with the American people.”

Isn’t there anyone on the conservative side with the guts to stick with a position once they have made a statement?

As soon as the democrats start sqawking they back down.

Obama IS a snob.

Stop walking away from every statement that irritates the liberals!
