It's time to stop dilly-dallying. Super Tuesday is upon us and with that, the nomination race could be all but over unless conservatives and libertarians finally unite behind one candidate, a candidate who can beat both Romney AND Obama. That candidate needs to be Newt.
Among the not-Romney's he is the only one who can unite the party. Economic conservatives like him because he balanced the budget and reformed welfare. Defense hawks like him because he is the most hawkish of the lot. Social conservatives, when they can get past his personal life, like him for his strong record on issues like abortion. And libertarians, like the Libertarian Party's nominee in 2008, Bob Barr, like him because he is economically libertarian and not over the top on social issues.
Can anyone honestly say the same thing about Santorum? He goes out of his way to attack individual freedom and libertarianism and completely blew his chance to be the nominee by focusing on social issues instead of the economy (probably because his economic policy record isn't really that great). Who attacks prenatal diagnostics? Or the idea of contraception? Or says he wants to vomit over a rather non-controversial (and somewhat revered) JFK speech? He has proven himself to be quite a bit more gaffe prone and offensive than Newt, despite the fact that people thought he was a "safer" option. Even I was offended by some of the stuff he said and I am a Pro-Life registered Republican. It's really not surprising that his support is crumbling like it is. See the latest tracking data from Gallup (Santorum's popularity is in dark green, Romney's is black [matches his soul], Newt's is orange and Ron Paul's is light green):

Santorum is just not ready for prime time. He is simply too divisive, offending gays, women, parents, protestants and libertarians (in total about 80-90% of the electorate). Unfortunately, he retains enough support to possibly give Romney a majority of the states on Super Tuesday. His conservative backers need to wake up quickly, bite the bullet and go with Newt.

Can anyone really argue with that?
I think Ron Paul supporters (the historically Republican ones, not the liberals who are just visiting the GOP for this election in order to support Paul) need to wake up as well. They are not furthering libertarianism at all by supporting Paul any more. He's made his point and has shown that he is a force to be reckoned with but supporting Paul on Tuesday just increases the chances that the most statist candidate, Mitt Romney, is nominated. Do you really want to be responsible for nominating the only Governor, Republican or Democrat, to enact a socialist universal healthcare system in their states? Newt isn't a libertarian but he is the man who did the most to wound the leviathan in the last 30 years. Why not vote for him and give this country a chance? It clearly won't with either Romney or Obama.
Finally, Newt is simply the most electable candidate in the race right now. As I mentioned earlier, he can unite the party, has a great grasp of both politics and logic and can actually explain conservatism in a way that others can understand and agree with. Santorum and Paul are both to extreme to get almost any independents over into the fold.
Sure he has baggage but I think most of it will go away. Freddie Mac? Let's see Obama bring that up when he received over $126,000 in bribes, err I mean donations, from Fannie and Freddie while he was in or seeking office (he was the #2 largest recipient in Congress, #1 was the notoriously corrupt Chris Dodd). Nancy Pelosi? Let's see Obama make an issue out of that one or Newt's opposition to cramming down the Ryan plan.
It's time for believers in small government and personal liberty to unite behind Newt, otherwise we will once again have a Nixon vs. McGovern sort of choice in the fall. And the stakes are just too high this election for that.
Blame Newt. He didn’t get enough signatures to get on the ballot.
Great idea, Marguerite. I wrote him to drop out and vote for Newt, because he loves his country and you only seem to love yourself.

If Newt Gingrich focuses on just few things like the gas prices and de-regulation (without government favoritism) of domestic production of any and all sources of energy, and need for tax reforms (abolishing, reduction, simplification and personal choice instead of AMT / the Hong Kong model), and also articulates the focus on English as official language amendment, DOM / Marriage is between one man and one woman amendment, "fixing" / clarifying 14th amendment from misinterpretation to stop "anchor babies" / birthright citizenship (as much as any President has a say in the amendment process beyond the bully pulpit and setting the agenda and encouraging the process either in Congress or the states) - he would quickly get the desired, positive differentiation from the other candidates.
Fortuna et futura favi fortus - The good fortune and the future belong to the brave.
Just the expectation that Obama will lose in November and be force to take his jackboot from off our throats would cause the market to go vertical! You want to be fully invested ahead of Election Day this year - assuming you have anything left to invest.

Best advice to all, don’t read the polls, disreagard the commentators, pundits and blah-blah reporters; vote for the best candidate, as he appears in his plans for America, live debates, public speeches and face to face interviews.

That sentiment is posted here all the time.
Newt says it best...he was not aware of the EXTENT of Dede’s liberalism and turncoat nature, and relied on info from people who weren’t reliable, in the GOP E in that district.
In other words, SHE makes Snowe and Collins looks like conservative, loyal Republicans, turns out.
Newt phoned Doug Hoffman and apologized, and Hoffman has accepted his apology and has urged people not to hold the matter against Newt.
Enough said, but it can’t be said too often.

I think Newt has three people in mind for VP: Herman Cain, Rick Perry or JC Watts.
Anyway ALL three will be part of his government. He also said he would like to have Sarah Palin on board as well.
Almost every poll is accurate within five points or so.
If anybody should apologize for that Charlie Foxtrot, it's the local NY GOP organization and Conservative Party for not doing their homework and Doug Hoffman himself. People who keep bringing this up either don't know this or don't care as long as it helps them to knock Newt (like the myths about bringing divorce papers to the hospital deathbed of his first wife, buying $500K worth of jewelry at Tiffany's, and supporting Cap-and-Trade, amnesty or other stuff that never happened).
Some people are ignorant of this, but many perpetuate these things on purpose, just like Romney's bold-faced lie about Newt being a "lobbyist" for Freddie Mac, which he breathtakingly kept repeating straight in Newt's face during the debate before Florida primary.

Yeah, the Doug Hoffman thing is one of the most over rated over played issues in a long time. Your explanation was correct - never mind that Hoffman is a fraud himself also. But compared to Dee Dee, who is awful, he became a hero and folks never realized what a fraud he really was.
Newt should have just steered clear. Then again, on issues like this, everyone wants Newts opinion and always have. No one has ever cared what RS or Mitt thought about anything like this.

Dede was an obscure NY State Rep for 10 years. Newt didn't know her or her record from Adam (in general, probably a good reason to "steer clear") but he was apprised that Hoffman was ineligible in the district and if he won, the election would be challenged and the seat [eventually] would go to the Democrat Bill Owen, so that was not an option... and in any case, the 2010 primary was going to start and GOP voters could choose someone else for the seat within months while, in the meantime, Republican House would have one more (R) on some issues.

Constantly amazed how people casually throw "Dede Scozzafava" around as if it is be-all and end-all (even if there was any credence to it), while the same people excuse Santorum's endorsement of Specter (whose record and character everyone knew) on "strategic" grounds, as if Republicans, with the majority in the Senate, couldn't vote in good SC Justices without Arlen Specter.
Boggles the mind.
