Wonder which English speaking nation will take over when the US falls. Maybe Australia...
In aviation, English is overwhelmingly dominate; for example, my son “Ace” flies for a Swiss airline, on an Africa route, and everything in his business: training, administration, regulations and operations is conducted in English.
Of course you know that is because the US is dominate in the world now. What happens when that changes?
Madagascar. The official language of the island of Madagascar is English. I kid you not.
Heh... not my first choice to overtake the US but interesting... One of those strange but true things?
Pfl.
Yup. 22 nations in world have English as their official language. And we’re not one of them.
Heh! Yes, isn’t that the pits!
The largest in the world English language newspaper by circulation is Times of India.
I go to the Philippines every year and their top daily publications are in English. Obviously the local rags and tabloids are in Filipino/Tagalog but any American easily communicates with the population.
Ingles es mas descriptivo.
Funny thing is I have traveled to 30+ countries and the only one country where no one spoke any English with me was France.
I was going to comment on that. If you don’t act fast, you’re likely to have two official languages soon. As a Canadian, I could say some things about that — but, it’s best I don’t get started. At least Spanish is a major language (in terms of the number of speakers world wide, if not in economic terms).
Your country’s currency is printed in two languages, isn’t it? Well, a nation’s currency is it’s language and yours has two. Ours is still printed in English and the Spanish-speakers aren’t clamoring to have that changed. Personally I can’t stand the sound of Spanish even though I can speak it a little. I just hate the rapid-fire sound of it coming out of the mouth of ignorant, illiterate pugnacious Mexicans and others from Central and South America pushing their way into my country.
I wonder why India was separated out....they are far more “in” the Anglosphere than out of it.
“In contrast, what we can refer to as the SinosphereChina, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Macauaccounts for only 15.1 percent of global GDP, while India generates 5.4 percent”
Why would the writer throw the Chi-comms into a made-up “Sinosphere” group, while making India stand on its own?
I think a socio/economic/political comparison between China and India over a 10-year period would be more useful.
The article does not talk about military power. The US is the "big brother" of the anglosphere in terms of military power. It would never let another anglosphere country fall into "enemy" hands.
"If the US falls?" Sorry, there is no real, apparent replacement.
Canada and New Zealand are doing quite well; and the UK, under Cameron, is probably on its way back economically. If the U.S. and Australia are able to restore right-of-center governments in the next elections, the Anglosphere will be in relatively good shape.
Not really. The anglo countries were settled/conquered by English speaking people of British, Scottish, Irish descent. India was conquered, not settled, and later relinquished.
