One presidential candidate will be in Columbus this weekend, but it looks a second one who was believed to be coming will not make a local stop days before the Georgia primary.
Republican presidential hopeful Newt Gingrich, Baker High class of 61, will fly into Columbus Airport Friday evening at about 8 p.m. for a campaign stop, according to Johnson Trawick, Muscogee County chairman of Gingrichs campaign for the Republican nomination.
Local Republicans were under the impression that former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum would be making a Saturday morning stop in downtown Columbus. It doesn't look like that will happen, but a pro-life Santorum tour bus will be here.
Gingrich is expected to greet people for about an hour at Flightways at the airport, Trawick said.
No sooner than Gingrich gets out of town, a bus touting the Santorum campaign will roll into town for a 10 a.m. Saturday appearance at the Coca-Cola Space Science Center on Front Avenue. The bus is sponsored by the Susan B. Anthony List, a national network of more than 365,000 Americans dedicated to mobilizing, advancing, and representing pro-life women in politics. The bus will be making Tennessee and Georgia stops over the weekend.
"I don't expect him to be with it," said Jameson Cunningham with Shirley & Banister Public Affairs group out of Washington.
Both events are open to the public.

What’s Greta’s problem drilling Newt?
Ok, finally she gets to some positive Georgia talk. Whew!
Just checking. I thought you would show up.
Like Myth Romney running dishonest ads about Gingrich being critical of Reagan.
Toes saying Santo got 3 to 1 vs the ROmBot for the Dem vote.
Which means in a fair fight in Michigan (Pubbies only). Santo gets his butt handed to him.

You do realize this is about Columbus GEORGIA, right? Not Columbus OH.
I sure do.
What I didn’t realize at first is Santo is only sending a bus. LoL.
Maybe not. Alot of Willards votes were submitted way in advance of 2/28, before 2/7.
There is never a fair fight with Willard the Liar outspending all the other candidates COMBINED.
But you knew that.
And yet Willard the Lying Liberal WHO INSISTS ON OPEN PRIMARIES (see NH) carries on....
Santorum 86 delegates......Newt 39 delegates......just saying......
Which means in a fair fight in Michigan (Pubbies only). Santo gets his butt handed to him.
Santorum in Florida where he did not campaign he got 13.6 percent of the vote. Newt in Michigan where he did not campaign he got 6 percent of the vote. Just saying. Those darn facts keep getting in the way of your continue bashing of Santorum.
Yep all GA is getting a pro-life Santorum tour bus.
I am going to go out on a limb here, but I think Newt should be spending a Day or two in Tennessee himself not sending a Surrogates only. Say Knoxville, Chattanooga, Nashville, then Memphis on Monday.
All of MSM is doing their best to Ignore his campaign to prevent his reemergence. If he wins GA well that was to be expected. BUT if he win Tennessee NEWT is Back. Winning Tennessee will be a huge help then for Kansas, Alabama, Mississippi.
Just Saying there is 1937 more delegates to still be Awarded. These People have not even voted.
So in your book 11 states need to speak for the remaining 39.
I very much think that a trip to either state would put them in play. Both are Proportional at worst I think he can manage a split for very little USD but its gonna cost him some Serious Time.
