Did Newt Gingrich Just Win In Michigan? (His plan to win is patient, simple and clever)

Real Clever. Don’t qualify for VA ballot, one win to his name,(SC) and maybe 1 more win in GA. He will NOT win Tennessee.

yeah, patient, simple and clever seems to be working well for him.

It gives me a headache to try to follow this convoluted line of reasoning.

7% is good?

If they would or could team up, Gov. Romney would fold like a cheap table.

One thing I have noticed - I watch debates and speeches which kind FReepers (thank you CW, TitansAFC, onyx, hoosiermama and several others!) post links to twice - once with the sound on then again on mute to concentrate solely on body language - is that the Speaker and Senator Santorum have no dislike for each other. They could work together easily.

Should work together.

But of course, there is the big problem. Who leads? In all honesty, I could accept either way around and would work my heart out for that ticket. There are many good people here who work for their candidate hard - not just posting articles of interest, but defending, explaining and fighting hard for who they think is right. That is as it should be.

My preference is the guy with the detailed plans, who has the serious talent at his back, not just endorsing him, but actively working on and writing policy. There are people I respect on here who want the guy who completely lives social conservatism, and they have good points. The Rust Belt isn’t the South. Staying a good conservative in a Rust Belt state is hard. An 88% rating is amazingly good.
Give him a solid Congress and Senate and watch him soar. Because Sen. Santorum is right. A moral life is important. More important for the one person who is selected as the face of the USA to the world. I could get behind the Senator, simply because what he says, he means. The Speaker, I will get behind with pleasure - he says what you have not even thought of yet.

One simple thing I want to see either Speaker Gingrich or Sen. Santorum do is get out from behind the lectern. Neither of them need it for notes and it sends a clear and powerful message - “Here I am. I want to be your president and there is nothing in the way between you and me.”

Been doing some calls for Newt - I can’t contribute to his campaign in any other way (not legally or ethically, at least), though I do send an email every few days or so with suggestions to his campaign team.
My average call time sucks since folk get an English accent on the phone and they want to talk a lot! I get passed from person to person in the house so they can hear my “cute” accent before we can get down to brass tacks. Still great fun though and it beats watching TV!

This is how it works. Santo's record has been exposed over the last 2 weeks. Since his 3 state wins, he got a free ride from the press and the money attack machine known as Myth smear machine. Month after month, it was Santorum who was getting 7% of the vote. He is now seen as a loser to Romney among many conservative voters who have a heard mentality.

Yes that's right, as many as 15 to 20% of voters who vote conservative will likely stampede to who they think can beat Romney the moderate. Voter perceptions reigns supreme, and it does not always follow what you may think as logical. Newt being a southern favorite among the candidates, will further magnify this phenomena. Gingrich who has been on top twice is about to get a third look by the Conservative heard.

This is a very fickle Republican electorate. Most Santorum voters were originally Bachmann, Perry, Cain, or Gingrich supporters. If Santorum, who is being mercilessly attacked in both the press and in Romney’s ads, is perceived as slipping, those voters may again go to Gingrich.

I think this race is far from over. We are just over 12% into the race by delegate count. It takes 1,144 delegates to win the nomination on the first ballot. Most of the primaries and caucuses allocate delegates via a proportional method.

Ron Paul is not a factor, probably with final 10% vote and delegates.

Note in the exit poll that the areas where there were significant differences in demographics that most of the drop in Santorum support went to Paul. He may not be collecting a lot but he is definitely an influence in the race.

Thankfully Rick was able to deny Romney about half the delegates in Michigan last night. Go Newt!

And a month ago? You see the problem there, right? The situation is fluid.

Santorum looks to have peaked for now. He lost Michigan which was in his hands. Romney's retaken the lead in most national polls. Rick's been strong in caucuses, less so in primary states.

For me it doesn't matter so much. Santorum and Romney are both establishment types with similar proposals.

I even suspected the establishment helped Santorum rise throughout Feb. to push Newt out. They want to seal his fate with Super Tuesday.

Look at the mess of the Arizona debate of Romney vs. Santorum, this primary season would be even more awful without Newt and we'd all be poorer for him dropping out.

If Romney is on the ticket, then it is doomed in Nov.

I am, despite being a Newt fan, going to gently disagree with you slightly.

Santorum is a lot like Perry. Absolutely brilliant in retail politics. Read the threads where people have met him in person. They are full of admiration - and not all of the posters are Santorum fans.

Sure, my criteria is different from yours. You rightly want a president who makes America great again. So do I. That is Speaker Gingrich, hands down.
I, as a citizen of an allied nation, want a president who keeps his word. Speaker Gingrich to me is that man, but Sen. Santorum I don’t have a problem with. Gov. Romney - sorry, you guys are on your own, and Sen. Paul, WE are on our own.

It is pretty blunt from across the pond.

Take care of that bust of Churchill for us, won’t you? We’ll be reclaiming it shortly. :-)

My best to Her Majesty The Queen on the occasion of her 60th. I’m hoping she’ll pass Queen Victoria.

As far as I know the bust is still American property. Recall reading a stub article that it is now in the US Embassy here in London, but that was a while back and I may be wrong.

I do think she will step down once she passes Queen Victoria’s term - a little innocent vanity is forgivable, but by abdicating she can short circuit the succession debates that the Dianistas will bring up.
She is getting tired, you can tell, and the Prince Consort’s increasingly bad health is taking a toll too.

She reads every piece of legislation before signing it, and, as most people forget, she has the right to refuse to sign something into law - think your presidential veto option. It would create a constitutional crisis if she did so, but there is an advantage in not having a written constitution.

May she pass the Queen Mum!

I hope she doesn’t step down. Charles is so disliked here, and I don’t think he’s capable. Wills and Kate would do so much better on earnestness alone. They have both warmth and gravitas. They’d pull it off.

Newt has the standard gender gap that all conservative Republicans do when it comes to the female vote. They always lose women by 5-10 points. The bizarre thing about Romney is that he has a gender gap with MEN in a lot of these elections and polls that’s even bigger than Newt’s is with women. A Republican who gets votes more strongly from women than men is truly bizarre. It just shows that Mitt’s a very unusual, exotic candidate for the Republicans to run. He is not the type of Republican candidate who ever really runs and certainly never wins the presidency.

I’d take a Kucinich/Gingrich ticket if that’s what it took to get Newt in the White House. Newt could do more good just by having the platform of the White House to speak to the American public than any other candidate since Reagan could do if they were actually in power.

I provided sources and data. So, you provide your usual bald assertion and expect me to take it on your "authority."

Prove it with data and sources or STFU.

Do you kiss your mama with that mouth?

The only useful link you pasted was the SC exit polls. The others are mindless media chatter, comparing numbers in all kind of fuzzy ways, that don’t show the original numbers.

In the SC polls, Newt had a 4-point gender gap in favor of men, Romney had 3-points in favor of women.

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/elections/2012/florida-primary-jan-31/exit-polls

The gap in Florida for Newt was 8 points, less than Bush’s. Newt won 36% of men and 28% of women. Romney’s gender gap was with men and it was 11 points. That’s just a bizarre result for a Republican. Those are the kind of votes Democrats get, which suggests Romney would have to make an uncharted course for a Republican to win in the fall.

http://www.gallup.com/poll/151724/Election-2012-Weekly-GOP-Ballot-Support-Data-Subgroup.aspx

In this Gallup data demographic data (2/13-2/19), Newt has 15% from men and 12% from women, giving him a 3-point gender gap.

Below is the Bush gender gap:

http://www.cawp.rutgers.edu/research/topics/documents/GenderGapAdvisory04.pdf

There has been a gender gap in every presidential election since 1980. In the 2000 election, women were 10 percentage points less likely than men to vote for George W. Bush (43% of women vs. 53% of men supported Bush); and 12 percentage points more likely than men to vote for Al Gore (54% of women vs. 42% of men supported Gore), according to the Voter News Service.
