Gingrich Zeroes In On Santorum In The South
Local News 8 ^ | February 28, 2012 | Shawna Shepherd

Nashville, Tennessee (CNN) -- NewtGingrich zeroed in on RickSantorum as a "big-labor Republican" Monday, and said the GOP presidential race is "going to redefine itself again" one week before crucial contests on Super Tuesday.

The longtime Georgia congressman praised his opponent's successful early state strategy but predicted on February 28 Santorum will lose to Mitt Romney in Arizona and Michigan, two states Gingrich ceded so he could focus on March 6 primaries that include his home state and Tennessee,..

"You will see things start to clarify if, as people expect, you end up with a Romney victory in Michigan. I think you'll see Santorum getting a very different look," Gingrich said. "He has had two weeks of being the alternative. The fact is, I think there are profound reasons that Rick lost the Senate race by the largest margin in Pennsylvania history in 2006 and I think it's very hard for him to carry that all the way to the general (election)."

…….Gingrich raised some potential red flags for Santorum in the South, pointing to Memphis-based Federal Express as an example.

"And when he comes South - take the case right here - he voted for the unions over FedEx. I suspect most folks in this state don't know that. But in fact, he was a big-labor Republican in Pennsylvania, and I suspect when you get to Memphis and you say to people 'Gee, this is a guy who wanted to guarantee that FedEx gave into the unions,' Santorum won't be quite as popular the following morning," Gingrich said.

…..Santorum leads with 33% among registered and likely voters surveyed. Romney came in second with 17% and Rep. Ron Paul had 13%. Gingrich picked up only 10% but he could benefit from the 27% surveyed who were still undecided.

Feb 28, 2012: PPP: Santorum up by 10 among election-day voters in MI …………..”Will this be enough to carry Michigan over the lead Romney presumably has built in early voting? Having a ten-point advantage on Election Day would be significant if it remains, especially since only 17% of PPP’s sample say they have voted early — but Romney has a 27-point lead among them, 56/29. Assuming that the Monday-only numbers and the early voting figures from PPP are accurate and predictive, a turnout like the one in 2008 would result in a narrow victory for Santorum, 38.9% to 35.2%. That would produce a nearly even split in delagates, but give Santorum a boost heading into Super Tuesday. If he can’t close the deal in Michigan, then next week will be a very tough sell.”

Re Santorum's "snob" comment: Obama's full quote about education included references to all types of education, not only college. Gingrich said it is good to get the education and training needed to become employed.

Re Santorum's "throw-up" quote (which he has backed away from) The Kennedy speech was given to dispel the notion that the Pope and the Vatican would be dictating from a Kennedy White House. (As Gingrich correctly explained).

Newt is more experienced than Santorum. It will be a huge mistake for the country not to support Newt.

The Fox News panels seemed relaxed and at peace with Romney’s wins last night (all was right with the world).

Now on to Washington and then Super Tuesday!

Record of Accomplishment and New Imperative to Return America to that Shinning City on a Hill

Well......

That's where a record comes in. Not just the record of votes, which is often a meaningless toll of positions taken for political reasons on bills that were always going to pass or were never going to pass, but a record of actions taken that actually mattered.

A record of actions taken that actually mattered.  Newt is the man who fits that description to a "T".

He can identify what is most important to the country, develop a plan to overcome that challenge, articulate the the merits of overcoming the challenge and why the plan will work.

I hadn't been for Gingrich initially and spent plenty of energy excoriating him, these last several years, for any number of sins he committed against the Republican/Conservative ideals.  He seemed a turncoat of sorts, particularly when he babysat Pelosi on the couch.

On reflection, Newt is an attention whore seeking relevancy for his ideas and I guess I take him at his word that he made a few mistakes in his life and he has at least some regret for those decisions.  God knows I am no angel and so I have to reflect on the man's ability to get things done.

Newt gave us the Republican majority, the Contract with America and completed 2/3rds of his agenda while in office.

He now has a new plan for America and with what is likely to become a Congressional Super Majority and a Senate Majority, if not Super Majority, I believe he will absolutely accomplish his agenda.

Say goodbye to ObamaCare the single biggest scam and travesty foisted upon a free people who, by right, ought to have been given the opportunity to read the bill and debate it.  Instead, a win at all cost, cheating agenda was developed and it was signed with most people never laying eyes on at least page 2 of this utopian dreck.

Executive Orders Positions:

The following are all within the executive powers to simply order and with the exception of securing the border within one year, they are all easily accomplished with the stroke of a pen and no way to challenge them in the legislature.

Keystone may be challenged in the courts but I think the Executive can order the EPA to approve, under National Security Priorities and it is a National Security issue, as well, a jobs issue.

As President, Newt, could actually have a very busy 1st week or month just on these initiative alone.

1. Eliminate the thirty-nine White House "Czar" positions created during the current administration. The president does not have the authority to appoint bureaucrats to power who are not accountable to the Congress.

2. "Mexico City Policy" of Respect for Life. Reauthorize President Ronald Reagans policy also known as the "Mexico City Policy" to stop tax payer dollars from being used to fund or promote abortions in foreign countries.

3. Restore conscience clause protections for Healthcare Workers. No American working in a medical environment should be forced to perform any procedure that he or she finds morally or ethically objectionable based on religious teaching. This protection should include, but not be limited to abortion. Existing conscience clause protections need to be strengthened.

4. Respect Each Sovereign Nations Choice of its Capital. Each sovereign nation, under international law and custom, may designate its own Capital. Accordingly, the U.S. State Department should be instructed to respect the choice of each sovereign nation and place the American embassy in their Capital.  (Israel is the only country the United States discriminates against in this regard. The people of Israel have designated Jerusalem as their capital. Yet the United States retains its embassy in Tel Aviv.)

5. End the Attorney General's Assault on the States. Instruct the Attorney General to withdraw all immigration-related lawsuits against states immediately, including those pending in Arizona and South Carolina. The Obama Administration refuses to enforce federal immigration laws, and instead sues states who are merely trying to enforce the laws that the federal government neglects. The Gingrich Administration will secure the border by Jan. 1, 2014 by any means necessary.

6. The Keystone Pipeline

Unleash American Energy by Approving the Keystone XL Pipeline. Instruct the State Department to approve a Presidential Permit immediately for the Keystone XL pipeline, a project that will send 700,000 barrels of oil a day from Great Plains and Southwestern states to Gulf Coast refineries&

Of all the candidates, Newt is a Tea Partier from way back! --1994--

House Minority Whip Gingrich and 7th District congressional candidate Brenda Fitzgerald throw mock tea crates into the Chattahoochee River on April 15, 1994, as part of a "Taxpayer's Tea party" in Roswell, Georgia.

TAX DAY 1994 - Politicians play with ire - Gingrich , others stage stunts touting frugality
The Atlanta Journal and The Atlanta Constitution - Saturday, April 16, 1994
Author: ALEXANDER, KATHEY, Kathey Alexander STAFF WRITER: STAFF

As procrastinators put the finishing touches on their tax returns Friday, politicians across the nation carried out carefully crafted stunts aimed at landing the votes of irate taxpayers.

In Roswell, U.S. House Minority Whip Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.) touted fiscal conservatism by staging a mock tea party on the banks of the Chattahoochee River . Conservative Republicans tossed empty produce crates into the river in symbolic re-enactment of the incident in Boston 221 years ago when colonists dressed as Indians dumped tea into the harbor in rebellion against the government.

More than 200 similar rallies occurred throughout the country, including Boston, San Francisco and Detroit , as candidates used the tax filing deadline as a forum for one-upsmanship on frugality.

“Americans literally work every day for months just to pay for a government that wastes their money,” said Gingrich , who is seeking re-election from the 6th district. “On the day taxes are due, we should remind you that you have every right as a citizen to protect yourself, your family and your wallet with your vote.”

I didn't watch them though I did read on facebook that the Fox panelists were acting as though it was a heavenly delight. I knew they would be celebrating their wins. Onward, Newt. Thanks for sharing.

He Is totally correct.

I changed my position on Crapghanistan earlier today and I am all for letting the Chinese come in and enslave them.

Serves a few purposes:

1. Teach them throwbacks a lesson about who their friends could/should be.

2. Outsource the procurement of earth metals with less risk to our men and women.

3. Eff em.

Afghanistan (Obama and the Left’s “good war” vs the war in Iraq):

Newt: “We are not going to fix Afghanistan. It is not possible,” he told a large group of Republicans at an afternoon luncheon here. “These are people who have spent several thousand years hating foreigners. And what we have done by staying is become the new foreigners.

“This is a real problem. And there are some problems where you have to say, ‘You know, you are going to have to figure out how to live your own miserable life… because you clearly don’t want to learn from me how to be unmiserable. And that is what you are going to see happen.”

I agree.

I am done with Afghanistan. My brother and two cousins don’t need to go there any more.

My brother has been there 7 times and his life is not worth these ingrates.

And santorum knows that and doesn’t care because he hasn’t changed - still taking one for the good old boys. He wants Newt out and Romney in.

Thanks for the link to his Georgia speech. I missed that somehow! It was powerful stuff - some aspects similar to other speechs, but with new (to me) things popped in to keep it fresh and lively.

Love his humour too - it really drives the points home better than any amount of lecturing.
Loved the way he involved the children in his speech. For too long “think of the children” has been the preserve of the left.

And finally, thank you for all your hard work in posting these threads. You were formidable for Perry, and are just as formidable for Newt.

The is the Elephant in the room that no one is talking about with Afghanistan. That Elephant is Iran, which occupies a huge border with Afghanistan. Iranian operatives are pouring into Afghanistan the same way they did in Iraq. We have been virtually fighting Iran who has been fighting us with asymmetric warfare techniques. This tactic proposed by the ancient military strategist Sun Tzu, has cost the United States $trillions. And I am just without words to describe my amazement that we have failed to understand what is going on in Afghanistan. Are we that stupid?

Michigan was a pretty weak “win” for Romney. He split the delegates evenly with Santorum. Romney isn’t polling well in Ohio or Georgia (March 6).

Thank you.

It is a very important election and we need to fight for our country’s future and a life we know our children and grandchildren should inherit by virtue of our Constitution. Too many politicians can’t see the forest for the trees, blinded by selfish allegiance to their own political survival — not caring a wit what happens after they’re gone.
