It’s two years old and doesn’t have professional soldiers, but I found “Taking Chance” to be properly reverent towards our enlisted folk. Very moving movie.
The plot wist reveals the financier as Jewish. I couldn’t care less about any of the things all you are oozing over. That alone is sufficient to destroy any pleasure I may have taken in the movie. The producers copped out when they didn’t have the guts to shine a light on islam.
Rush has amazing oratory and persuasive powers —it’s natural that he was a salesman, and now is more or less sales.
I agree with Rush that it’s a fantastic film, and like him I suspect I richly relish that a bunch of non-actors filmed with a street camera have snatched the top earning rank in theaters.
More:
I think a LOT of the earliest people to see this movie are:
1. Really ardent fans of SEALs or combat video-gamers
2. Rush fans
3. People who heard about it from Rush fans
I think Rush is taking up the earnings of this movie as a personal sales challenge —he wants to see HOW high he can push the earnings of a product.
I think that’s OK, and hey, the movie is fantastic. But Rush is competative, and I think the fact that Hollywood (and NFL) lefties ignore and slight him takes this personal challenge of his up to a new and more personal level.
I hope he keeps doing this —I’d do that too.
The ability of this non-Hollywood movie to top and SHOW UP the, “real Hollywood” is a metaphor for Rush’s own radio career, in which phalanxes of established industry lefties repeatedly told him (and indeed tell him to this very day), You Can’t Do it.
And then HE DID.
!
Dont forget I believe over 20 were killed in the Rescue Mission of Marcus Latrell,”Lone Survivor”.
What do you think? Should I take him?
By all means you should take him!
But before you go, do what served us well with our kids.
Whenever there was a movie that was "important" for them to see; they, their mother and I would research the topic of the movie.
Rambo was a biggie that was a movie our son wanted to watch. At the time, he was your son's age. So, I had him dig up research on Viet Nam and US Army Special Forces, tactics and weapons from the school library.
And especially, the Congressional Medal of Honor.
Alas, no internet. But school libraries were much different then. But, I digress.
After two weeks of immersion into the material, we went to see the movie together.
Our son was informed. Knowledgeable. Intuitive. Understanding.
He probably paid closer attention to the movie because of his research.
Then he came home and immediately took out the encyclopedia to "learn" more about the climate of the Great Northwest. He was up until 3AM, I know because he made himself breakfast at 2AM and I had bacon and eggs with him then and discussed all his new found information.
So, by all means take your son. After he has an understanding of what makes a Navy SEAL. And what makes a Navy SEAL special. And most importantly, WHY we need the Navy SEALs.
