I remember the pundits saying if the president announces some action, it will bring the price down, and sure enough it did. All what the left and the environmental whackoes have are lame excuses
The current prices are probably a setup. Come July or August the RATS will tap the SPR or some other hocus-pocus to drop the price some and then claim “See! Prices are down from $4.09 to $3.15. Reelect us”.
I sent him email with the link to the 2006 article last Friday. I knew he would like it. Also here on Free Republic.

Someone has already suggested that they should do that. like if that solves the problem. It is nothing but a bandaid on a huge problem
I’m not sure the Baraqqis have that much control. Isn’t a lot of this about refinery capacity rather than crude supply?
All what the rats and the environmental lunatics come up with one lame excuse after another not to drill. Like it would take 10 years+ just to get a drop of oils out every time the subject was brought up that we need to drill for oil
Not at all. We have been upgrading and expanding our existing refineries for many years.
Combined with falling demand, and even running at about 83% capacity, we now produce more refined product than we use. This has resulted in us becoming a net exporter of refined products.
Although it has recently begun to decrease, we still import far too much oil to run through those refineries. We import more crude oil than we produce ourselves.
Do you have any plots/graphs/charts on the Federal Taxes vs time on Jet Fuel for Jets, Diesel for trains/ships, Diesel for trucks/cars, Gasoline for cars/trucks?
Thanks for the info and charts thackney. It shows me that Americans are trying their darndest to produce despite all the government interferance. I can’t help but wonder what those charts might look like if the government was 100% behind the efforts of the producers.
” - - - it would take 10 years+ just to get a - - -” (fill in the blank).
When the Commies ran the former USSR, they had a 5 year plan.
Now that the Bolsheviks are running the economic estimates in the former US of A, all of their figures are for 10 years.
What happened to a one year estimate?
BTW, since it is 3 years and counting since Congress has passed a budget, will they opt for passing a budget every 10 years too?
note to self: proofread and spellcheck.
Thack, you’re THE MAN on oil-related stuff.
Thanks
We have an abundant supply, but why has the price risen?
There are traps everywhere, and both parties are capable of hypocrisy. If you don’t open the SPR, you didn’t do enough to lower prices. If you do, you used a strategic resource for political gain. The party opposing the POTUS will criticize no matter which way he goes.
Bush 1, Clinton, Bush 2, all played the SPR card, and now apparently Obama.
For the same reason gold jewelry has become expensive even though their are plenty people making it.
Crude oil is expensive. Although our demand has fallen, but global demand is up.
Charts on fuel taxes
I don’t recall any. I also find the federal taxes on petroleum fuel deceiving because there is so very much tax on the crude oil but not reported in the fuels.
SSSD. I was having this vary same conversation with some people today.
Since it is against Federal Law (Clinton) to post Federal Taxes on the Gasoline pump, would you do the honors for us State by State?
IOW, the MSM gins up their “Pain at the Pump” Campaign, so give it to us straight, how much of that “pain” is Federal Taxes?
Federal Tax
Gasoline = 18.4¢/gal
Diesel = 24.4¢/gal
Average State taxes (on top of Federal)
Gasoline = 22.68¢/gal
Diesel = 23.18¢/gal
How much tax do we pay on a gallon of gasoline and diesel fuel? (Energy Information Administration)

For a breakdown of costs by state:
http://gasbuddy.com/Tax_Info.aspx
Note: Some states now have added percentage tax in addition to tax per gallon. The percentage tax automatically rises with the price per gallon. Therefore it is important to know when the data you look at was updated.
Thanks! I live in Texas, so my per gallon of gasoline “pain at the pump” is 20 cents.
Back in the 1990’s, Zipper-Boy Clinton added a Federal 5 cents a gallon to our “pain at the pump.”
Either Florida never got the news, or (GASP!) the politicians juggled the figures, as your hotlink shows that Florida is only paying 4 cents a gallon of pure Federal Pain.
