What you have to grasp is that Santorum’s only faint claim on ‘conservatism’ is his resistance to abortion. On all other issues he is a statist. That is utterly ridiculous. Santorum was a leader in pushing for welfare reform, voted for a balanced budget and has an 88% rating from the American Conservative Union.
