"Thats the kind of balance you need," said Geithner. "Why is that the case? Because if you don't try to generate more revenues through tax reform, if you don't ask, you know, the most fortunate Americans to bear a slightly larger burden of the privilege of being an American, then you have to -- the only way to achieve fiscal sustainability is through unacceptably deep cuts in benefits for middle class seniors, or unacceptably deep cuts in national security."

Say something noble like this, in practice cheat on your taxes.
Which one are we then supposed to believe, what he says or what your lying eyes see?
So half of Americans dont pay any taxes..can we say they are UN-AMERICAN?
When we sweep the next election, I hope tax cheating hypocrites like Geithner will be slated for an annual audit for the rest of his sorry life.
This from Turbotax Timmy. What a disgusting hypocrite, like all the rest of the current administration. Corrupt criminals, the lot of them.
Oh yeah...and 49.5% don’t pay any taxes at all - NONE!

This is huge, folks. This guy has the goods on Geithner and Bernake

FUTG, FUWB, FUGS, FU all the elitists !
You almost had me except for the numerous times this trick has been tried. We raise more revenue via taxes and the politicians spend more money. The debt never seems to decrease. No matter the promises made, they are never kept. No matter the agreements enter into, they also an not honored. Laws are passed to reduce the debt and then some important need arises mitigating the law.
Regarding "you know, the most fortunate Americans to bear a slightly larger burden of the privilege of being an American" You have it wrong, the so called 'fortunate Americans' have bared the burden. They have created enterprises which employee hundreds if not thousands of Americans. Does Henry Ford who raised the pay structure while creating the automobile industry which employees hundreds of thousands own anyone? Not only did Henry Ford make millions of Americans life better, he generated increased tax revenue from those millions who were able to earn more money thanks to the automobile.
I could list millions of 'fortunate Americans' who have made this country better. Yes the 'fortunate Americans' benefited, but so did everyone else.
So in closing nice try.
Hey dirtbag!
Those guys memorialized in granite...all over DC, on our currency, our founding fathers...
THEY PAID NO INCOME TAXES!
They fought in a revolution over much less.
This jerk is an ego-ridden, POS, elitist. Who in the hell has given him the right to determine what being an American entails.
Need to start decorating lamp posts with these ‘elites’.
“privilege of being an American”?
Implied in his message is “Pay our blackmail or we’ll kick you out.” Being American is *not* a privilege. It was earned by our forefathers who fought and died fighting people of Geithner’s sensibilities.
“Geithner spent most of his childhood in other countries, including present-day Zimbabwe, Zambia, India, and Thailand where he completed high school at the International School Bangkok.”
I think Geithner learned the wrong lessons in his formative years.
Zimbabwe was then Rhodesia, known for its racism.
Zambia was a leftist dictatorship.
India of the time was a socialist disaster.
The only country even vaguely friendly to the US was Thailand, which is the furthest thing from a western democracy.
And this is a man allowed significant control of our economy? Everything he knows about us he learned from a book or in some ivory tower school. He is more not-American than he is American.
As soon as you lead the way, Timmy, and pay up!
Marxist class warfare rhetoric from Turbo Tim.
Gee maybe if you didn’t run up 6 trillion in deficits buying votes Timmy? Just saying...
He is an idiot.
“Say something noble like this”
I disagree that there is anything noble about what he said.
He is putting the onus on those that work hard enough to be taxpayers, yet absolves himself and government from any involvement, except as the arbiter of “good and evil” as measured by the Marxist metrics of this administration.
If the “middle class” doesn’t pay for the benefits it receives, and it doesn’t, then why is it unacceptable to cut them? That’s right....it’s only unacceptable to politicians who want to get elected!
When are liberals going to get it through their cement filled skulls that this is a country that was founded by rebels with guns who were against excessive taxation, intrusive government, general tyranny, you know stuff like that. So much so, that they put in on a document called the Constitution that they made all their reps swear to protect and defend. If liberals like Mr. Geithner can’t deal with that, then maybe he should consider moving the F out of the country.
