Friday was supposed to be the moment for Mitt Romney's triumphant return to his birthplace, when he would use the cavernous green of Ford Field to deliver a policy address that established him as the lone Republican capable of both fixing the economy and beating President Barack Obama.
But the event served up fresh evidence for Romney critics who say he can't rise to the occasion and rally important elements of the GOP around his candidacy.

They waste millions of dollars on advertising and payoffs and have nothing but empty stadiums to show for it.
They could have held this in a phone booth.
They have giant barriers between Romney and the audience, as if they are afraid some crowd is going to crush him.
You know it is a screw up when Rachel Madcow expresses sympathy for a Republican. She did that last night while discussing how inept the inevetible candidate seems to be at stage craft.
Romney will be just like ‘McLame and he will talk tuff and carry a water pistol.

They wanted to make sure the 5 or 6 photographers had room to work. Just be courteous is all.

Hey, that’s NOT ME in the empty seats!
It gets worse. As pointed out by Rush yesterday, truly connecting with the working people (sarcasm).

Aw give him credit, there are no styrofoam Roman columns!
I’m reminded of that old line, “A lot of people must have come dressed as empty seats”.
I’ve seen plenty of welfare recipients in Cadillacs, mostly Escalades.
It took a second but thanks for a morning guffaw! Brilliant!
Most millionaires I have known have put in a lot more hours than "working people,"
ROFLOL!
We are so screwed in this election it appears....
The same thing happened to Harry Truman in 1948...I think it was in Kansas City. A similar picture to Romney’s appeared in LIFE magazine showing Truman in a very large hall in front of about two hundred people.
There had been a mix-up in Truman’s schedule...and his speech was not well publicized.
LIFE, or course was four square behind Dewey. The magazine proclaimed Truman’s campaign against the former New York Governor to be all but over. This was after the Democrat convention in ‘48.
Of course Truman won. A fact LIFE and other periodicals never lived down.
While I plan on voting for Santourm next week, here in Michigan, this Romney screw-up means little.
I honestly beleive any Republican will be The One in the fall. Gas prices will finish Obama.
