That right there could trigger off the worst scenario for President Obama: stagflation, the combination of high inflation, no economic growth and high unemployment. Anyone old enough remembers that in 1979-1980, stagflation caused enormous harm to the US economy, and President Carter saw his sizable lead in March 1980 over then-former Governor Ronald Reagan essentially vanish very quickly, and Carter was beaten in a landslide loss.
Except Letterman Leno Conan and the rest won’t tell a single joke about it. or if they do they will blame it on the Republicans or Bush or Chaney. The media will tell us how wonderful it is that we are paying $5 a gallon and how Obama kept it from going to $10 a gallon so we should be grateful to him. That’s how they play this game. And the majority of Americans are stupid - that’s a fact. The sheep will look in their wallet and watch their money disappear at the gas pumps ... and then listen to the TV men and become confused about who to blame.
Reagan had a gift - to talk to the people. No one on the stage right now has that gift.
“... and President Carter saw his sizable lead in March 1980 over then-former Governor Ronald Reagan essentially vanish very quickly, and Carter was beaten in a landslide loss.”
I was a teenager when Reagan was elected President, I immediately felt safe.
Because I was safe!
The parallel ends at the point where Obama, using billions of dollars from various stimulus packages, has stashed away money for the campaign. Obama has undoubtedly bought millions of votes with billions of our dollars.
A lot of Northern Democrats were never very warm towards Carter because he was a Southern white male, and they are programmed to believe that Southern white males are racists (even when they have their Klan robes hidden away). They never showed the kind of idolatry towards Carter that they have towards Obama. Then John Anderson came along and they could vote for someone other than Carter who wasn’t Reagan. That won’t be the case with Obama.
I think the media are playing the same game now that they played in 1980. They are failing to report the truth in an attempt to prop up a very unpopular President who they like but ordinary people despise. I remember the Carter years. In 1980 I never believed that Carter had a snowballs chance in hell of winning. Nobody I knew liked Carter and most people I talked to loathed him, much like the people I talk to loathe Obama today. I am very glad that Reagan was the nominee because he is who we needed in 1980 but I think that any of the Republicans could have won against Carter that year. The MSM polling organizations reporting Carter leading in early 1980 simply started telling the truth towards the end of the 1980 campaign in an effort to preserve what remained of their credibility. I suspect the same will happen later this year.
