“The Little Old Lady from Pasadena” by Jan & Dean from 1964. (Actually, Dean Torrence was not involved in that recording session, and his part was sung by P. F. Sloan.)

Hot Rod Lincoln by Commando Cody and the Lost Planet Airmen, or is it Commander Cody?
It was “Commander Cody and his Lost Planet Airmen” who did the umpteenth remake in the 70’s. I can’t resource the original right now, but was a true story that actually happened in Washington St

“I Get Around” by the Beach Boys. It’s a bit of a stretch, but the song is about cruising.

“Rocket 88” deserves some consideration, being as it was the first rock’n’roll song. Whatever you may think of Ike Turner

Yeah, I knew it was an old song when their version came out. I liked every single one the 70s version by Commander Cody the best.
I remember the British Invasion band “The Searchers” redid a lot of old songs and they were invariably better than the originals.
