Surf. Sun. Disneyland. Whats not to love about California?
Well, apparently, a lot of things. In a poll released Tuesday by the Public Policy Polling, California was the least popular state in the United States. Only 27 percent of Americans hold a favorable view of the Golden State compared to the 44 percent who view it unfavorably.
Theres this arrogance about Californians, said Patrick Dorinson, a radio host in California who refers to himself as the Cowboy Libertarian. Californians still think its this great star. Its a tarnished star at this point.
The gap of 17 points puts California far behind Illinois (19 favorable, 29 not) and New Jersey (25 favorable, 32 not) as the least liked state in America.
Im actually quite surprised California fared so poorly, said Albert M. Camarillo, a professor of history at Stanford University. I think the national public knows of our difficult budget situation, our higher than average unemployment rate, the still very expensive housing market.
The Left Coast is distinct in another way more people have an opinion about California than any other state only 28 percent of respondents couldnt decide whether they liked the state or not.

A. DEMOCRATS
In particular:
1. Nancy Pelosi
2. Barbara Boxer
3. Dianne Feinstein
For a start
California would be a beautiful place to live if it weren’t for the idiocy that comes from those two areas I mentioned. Had family there, but they moved some years ago. Still have friends there. It’s bad enough here in Illinois, I just can’t imagine living in one of those socialist hell holes.
bfl
I don’t hate California. It’s mostly a beautiful state with abundant resources. What I hate is the politics, stupid laws, and B.S. living conditions in California.
We love the natural beauty of California. It’s the Californians who stink the place up!
“I have a reason for disliking California: I spent 50 years there and despite everything I tried to do to prevent it, the place slipped slowly into total disarray and debasement.”
Well, I only spent 20 before I wised up.
However, I think it puts me in a position to fairly criticize the state.
I HATE IT.
In addition to those mental cases, I hate CA because nearly every problem in reguards to types of fuel required so that their air and enviromental mandates screw me 2500 miles from $hit land.
Ingrates! You’re all ingrates on this thread! Think of all the libs we are tying down here! Flypaper, anybody?
Moved here (SF Bay area) 8 months ago.
1. There’s litter everywhere and no one seems to care enough to stop and pick it up. I’ve seen parents at the local school step right over lunch-time litter on their way to pick up their kids.
2. The school buildings are falling apart while the school board spends money on “diversity assemblies” and pays teachers to be “test coaches” for other teachers
3. In order to claim that schools are improving their test scores, the state has consistently reduced the baseline for passing. “&0% of our kids passed the math exit exams” ... but they still cannot do basic multiplication.
4. Ridiculously high cost of living for no good reason.
5. (ignorant) People think that Southerners are xenophobes and bigots. HA! Just talk to a few Californians and mention you’re from the South, that you homeschool, that you vote Republican, that you support the war, etc.
Like others said before me, California is physically beautiful, but it is being ruined everyday by the slovenly, ignorant, selfish population.
Exactly. A tarted up old babe who hasn't figured out that time passed her by.
The simile is not abstract. The elderly baby boomers who still think it's 1965 here look and act like that. It's comical: once in the vanguard of culture, now they're just relics driving aging V-dubs belching smoke, surrounded by Asians in BMW's.
You forgot "immature".
Been in Sacramento almost all my life. Went to the schools here before they muffed them all up. There is nothing like Sacramento in summer at 110 degrees, it’s like a blow torch. At least they no longer burn the rice fields like the did in the 70s.
That’s why I live in Placerville now.
I’ve been to Texas a few times and liked what I saw and also see from here. I know Texas is hot but I’ve been thinking that way for a while.
Last time I went through SF besides the airport was several years ago and I couldn’t believe how dirty the city seemed.
Now that SF has their mitts on the Presidio, they’ve probably ruined its beauty as well. Unfortunately, the people that ruined SF moved North and are probably ruining everything from Santa Rosa on South to SF.
i just hate it's government and all the RATS that live there
It’s kinda like a pig asking the question “why do people think I’m a pig?”
I would like to see Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Louisiana leave the union and form the Constitutional States of America.
I bought a retirement home here 15 months ago. Indian Wells area of the desert. There are 103 golf courses in the valley, the roadways are lined with palm trees with immaculately maintained flowers and shrubs, everyone keeps their properties in excellent condition. Temperature today is 84 degrees. What’s not to like? Keep your money and any income out of the state..all of our neighbors are conservative by the way. Sunsets over the Santa Rosa Mountains are gorgeous. Happy hour at the Grand Champions on Wed nights is Jazz night. Thursday nights is wine tasting at the local wine shop. I don’t hate it here.
Yup that too
I don’t hate California. It’s a beautiful state, with a wealth of natural resources. It gave us one of the greatest presidents in our country’s history.
