Newt Gingrich won tonights debate, which he needed to do, but not because he out-maneuvered his opponents. Santorum and Romney were simply too focused on each other, with Paul tag-teaming alongside Romney (ambition makes strange bedfellows). All of this gave Gingrich cover and also gave him the opportunity to be the only candidate that directly and repeatedly went after Barack Obama. He looked like a statesman. His answer on infanticide and shifting the focus from GOP and birth control to Obama and his campaign against the Born Alive Infant Protection Act was the rhetorical feat of the night.

Exactly what Morris warned the front runners not to do..and they did it anyway.
He also said that Newt would come out of it unscathed..and he did. Congrats Mr. Speaker!

Sarah liked it via Facebook.
“Sarah Palin
Newt’s message on energy development was spot-on. Drill now and stop bowing to foreign regimes begging them to do it for us. Then we’ll all be “cheerful.”.”
Golly I do wonder who she’s supporting? /s

My personal preferences aside (Santorum all the way) I will be very intrusted to see the poll fallout from tonight.

I have been reading twitter and facebook. It looks like Romney is getting low marks. Wouldn't it be awesome if his numbers also took a dive and Newt's numbers move.

Karl Rover said last night on FOX that Santorum and Newt had to go after each other in this debate to gain any ground. LOL...glad Newt didn’t take his Mitt-approved advice.

Dick Morris is on Twitter praising Romney as the big winner of the debate and his performance as masterful. Oy vey. Looking for a bonus from FOX I guess.

Morris, Rove & Co. are happy that Romney made Santorum look weak.
I am praying Newt comes back and people do wake up.

After Perry was torn apart for having a record, I had hoped Santorum would learn a lesson. Now I realize that a record is itself a bad thing.
The only way to survive these debates is if either you haven’t had a record in the past decade, or if the moderators of the debate protect you by forcing the conversation away from attacks on your record.
If the moderators want you destroyed, and your opponents want to play along, you can’t avoid the questions, you can’t just say “it was what it was” and move on, and even if you explain yourself, you keep getting asked to re-explain again and again, as if you should be changing your answer until your explanation is “acceptable”.
Everybody makes bad choices, but only some get focused on.
