I AM SICK OF PEOPLE SAYING THAT NEWT WAS FOR THE BAILOUT!!!
GREAT to hear that Newt is on board with Rick and Huck who never wavered for a second regarding the huge problems with TARP and bank bailouts in general.
thanks for the link.
Did you WATCH the video from 2008, before it was passed? HUM? Do you have one for Rick, saying how much he was AGAINST TARP since he keeps telling us he was against it but Newt was for it? He wasn’t in the Senate to be able to cast a vote so the only way that we REALLY know if he was against it is if he was recorded saying so. If he did I would love to see it. Hindsight is 20/20 and it is really easy NOW to say that you were for or against something.
Maybe this might help.

Who cares. Your post strictly deals with the purity of Newt on this issue. Now that the all too well know counter to your argument comes up, you shift to slamming Santorum. What does he have to do with your argument on Newt? Absolutely nothing.
Uh, did you watch the video that was embedded in the article? If you did you will see a man that was deeply conflicted with his initial instinct and reports that he was getting from people that he trusted that were “in the know” about the situation. This was not a clear “I say heck yeah!” endorsement of TARP, on the contrary. You must be a rigid ideologue not to get what he was saying. AND, he was not in a position to pass or vote on anything.
Now, if your guy Santorum (I am assuming) was SO VEHEMENTLY AGAINST TARP, then surely there is a video of him saying so somewhere out there. If there is, I will apologize to everyone for my post. However, it is very easy to SAY you were against something when you have the luxury of knowing the future.
Santorum is acceptable to me, but I believe our country needs BOLD REFORMS not tweaking around the edges.
NEWT 2012- SOLUTIONS, NOT TALKING POINTS!
No, the only one that is arguing purity on this is SANTORUM. He is the one that is saying that Newt supported the bailout. But it is not that cut and dried. Newt recognized the complexity of the situation and was conflicted about it.
Please show me where Santorum was pure in his opinion on TARP, AT THE TIME IT WAS HAPPENING. If he was, then I would love to see it.
Thanks!
We can't. Know why? Because Rick didn't spend every waking moment out of office hitting every Sunday morning show and political round table discussion that would have him. Most of the issues with Newt saying things, on the record, sometimes coming down on both sides of an issue or just making odd statements about Reagan and Paul Ryan emanated from these places.
You maded a statement, I just gave you a link that proved your statement wrong. Period.
Lazlo, those shows didn’t want Rick on them because he was considered the intellectual and policy lightweight that he is. So he was relegated to being a low-end analyst on FOX News and guest-hosting the Bill Bennett radio show on Fridays. Few videos of Rick from that time probably exist on YouTube because he was such a boring commentator lacking in any substance or depth who had little to add to the discussion. He never said anything interesting or insightful that would inspire people to record it and post it on the internet.
