Its as simple as simple can be just a man, speaking against a blue background. But, in a cycle of 30-second ads, this one stands out for a different reason: It runs for 28 minutes and 59 seconds. It fits that it comes from Newt Gingrich, who has arguably been most stung by the work of skilled videographers at his rivals campaigns. While the Gingrich campaign has run its share of attack ads, too, those quick hits never seem to advance his cause in quite the way hed like. Hes oscillated between a positive and negative approach to campaigning but hes always taken a wordy approach to it.
Debates at least until Florida have been the most effective vehicle by which Gingrich has promoted himself. This ad offers him the chance to speak fluidly and passionately, as he does in debates, without the pesky interruptions of MSM moderators and the other candidates. He was wise to choose energy as his first topic, too. As he states in the video, its an issue that has implications for national security, personal family budgets, the national economy and balancing the federal budget. Its not like high gas prices work in Obamas favor, either.
Question is: Does the campaign have enough cash to run it anywhere and for any meaningful length of time? According to a press release cited by Washington Wire, the answer is yes: The campaign says it plans to run the full video in key cities until Super Tuesday.
Is that anything like 5 hour energy?
What about his new book on climate change? I doubt he mentions that.
But, hey, for once the candidates are paying attention to little, ol’ Oklahoma. Go ahead, pander to me! I love it! ;-)
Notice that Newt rolls along without notes, without a teleprompter and from total memery. This man is without a doubt the most brilliant man on the political scene in our nation’s history.
Go Newt!
If you love good Newt speeches, watch this one on the Tube. Its called Gingrich to Michigan: Change or Die from 2010 but the message applies to the entire nation. It’s a brilliant, honest and tough analysis of the economy and what we need to do to recover. This is my favorite Newt speech so far:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nyi5JsYeY6E
Katharine Hayhoe, an atmospheric scientist at Texas Tech, wrote a chapter in Newt’s book on climate change that talked about man made climate change. Newt deleted her chapter because he no longer believes in the man made component. Hayhoe went balistic when she heard about Newt’s action.
Hayhoe in a couple of tweets she posted these comments:
“so much ‘spare’ time wasted I cd’ve spent w family, & 2. what an ungracious way to find out, eh?” she asked. She followed that with “Nice to hear that Gingrich is tossing my #climate chapter in the trash. 100+ unpaid hrs I cd’ve spent playing w my baby.”
Newt gets it right!
Go Newt!
Gingrich can expound extemporaneously about politics and the issues even in his sleep.
I passed this one to all my email addresses.
This is the NEWT brain trust that we love so much. NOT one can address any pressing issue as he.
I don’t believe Newt changed his mind any more than I believe Romney changed his views on abortion. A pox on all of them! They are all a bunch of sleazy opportunists who would be in favor of euthanasia for anyone over age 50 if polls supported it.
As Mencken said, politicians have no more sense of honor than a common burglar or street-walker.
Hayhoe can put her nonsense in her own publicized book.
I know Rick is being wonderfully promoted, and it is refrexhing and encourageing to see that the powers no longer have absolute control, but are now mere players in the game.
I like how Newt explains clearly and proposes concisely (an) idea(s) that sound like the thoughts I think and would work (if I knew what I was thinking was a good thing or not)
I guess what I'm trying to say is ... just as in 1998/99 I discovered FreeRepublic and learned there was a whole NATION of folks that thought like me, supposed like me and many had thoughts and ideas I liked outside of my own thoughts and ideas ... I relate to Gingrich the same.
He says things I think and if I didn't think them, he says things I like and believe would be good and workable.
Newt/Rick ?
Gingrich/Santorum ?
Anyone who can watch that video all the way through and still not know who should be the next president of the United States is completely hopeless IMHO!
Yes, just watched it, and that is fricken amazing!
Bump for when I get home.
There’s a recent one where he’s speaking at a David Horowitz event that’s really good too.
How about Newt/Sarah/.
ping.
The muzzies wouldn't know what to do with her or how to deal with her.
Merkle would be jealous, Sarkozy would attempt to bed her and Putin would piss his pants trying to show off for her.
Great Video!
GO Newt!
Newt bump
