This evening, speaking at North Carolina Central University in Durham, North Carolina, White House senior adviser Valerie Jarrett said that folks getting and spending unemployment checks is a healthy thing . . . because it stimulates the economy: "Even though we had a terrible economic crisis three years ago, throughout our country many people were suffering before the last three years, particularly in the black community," Jarrett said. "And so we need to make sure that we continue to support that important safety net. It not only is good for the family, but it's good for the economy. People who receive that unemployment check go out and spend it and help stimulate the economy, so that's healthy as well."

I remember many years ago when I lived in Northern Virgina and they changed the signs on the Metro line. Some idiot politician said it didn’t cost anything because it was federal money. And here (near Richmond) and few years ago they changed the height of the guard rails on the local highways by only a few inches. Some politician said it didn’t cost anything...it was federal money. When it’s other peoples money they have no concept of saving pennies so dollars will take care of themselves.

Just think of how things have changed in only 5 years. Back then, 5% unemployment was inexcusable. Homeless people were everywhere. And gasoline at $2.50 a gallon was solid proof that the Republicans had conspired with 'Big Oil' companies to rip the American people off.

It's almost as if the press were playing favorites rather than honestly reporting the news... Nah, that can't be it or they'd totally lose their credibility... and readers.
