Phoenix (CNN) Joe Arpaio, the sheriff of Maricopa County, Arizona, briefed GOP contender Rick Santorum on his investigation into President Barack Obama's birth certificate, the controversial law enforcement official told reporters Tuesday.
After a speech to a Republican gathering in Phoenix where Santorum appeared earlier in the day, Arpaio explained he wanted to inform the candidate of his investigation "as a matter of fairness in case he wouldn't want me to support him."
Arpaio said he plans to endorse one of the four remaining GOP candidates in the coming weeks. But the sheriff added he would not make his choice known before he announces the findings of his birth certificate probe at a news conference set for March 1st. This endorsement would be his second in the race; in November 2011, he endorsed then-candidate Rick Perry.

Arpaio added he believes he is doing the president a favor. Sort of a cryptic remark.

Sounds like Joe might have something and doesn’t want to paint anyone into a corner without their consent. sheriff Joe is very popular in his region and admired by many in the US. The Posse couldn’t hurt him even if it is a dud. It could hurt a canidate. I would expect Team Obama is scaed or he wouldn’t have sent holder after Joe. Joe says “bring it on”. A true Patriot!

No matter what Arpio has or doesn’t have, he’s smart enough to know that anyone who he endorses will take some fire for it.
Pretty honorable of Arpio warn a candidate of the possibility of incoming fire ahead of time.

“Arpaio added he believes he is doing the president a favor.”
I think Arpaio is being sardonic!
The story also says:
“Arpaio explained he wanted to inform the candidate of his investigation ‘as a matter of fairness in case he wouldn't want me to support him.’”
IMO, it would only be “a matter of fairness” to give Santorum a chance to refuse Arpaio’s endorsement if the “something shocking” uncovered by the Posse could raise a ruckus that Santorum wouldn't want to be associated with...and Arpaio said Santorum was fine with the investigation.
However it is not exactly clear whether Arpaio told Santorum the _findings_ of the investigation, which are to be announced March 1.

I sincerely hope that Joe found irrefutable evidence that Pres_ _ent Obama (I'll give him an ID when he gives me one) has no Constitutional standing to be the POTUS.
It would make me extremely proud to be, "Just another Joe".

Arpaio added he believes he is doing the president a favor."I really started this on the theory that maybe I could clear this mess up," Arpaio told reporters. "Wouldn't it be nice for me to do that?"
Notice what is in quotes and what is not.

The trouble is that the courts will decide that there isn’t a human being alive that has standing.

Yes, but those same courts might have trouble claiming that an entire state does not have standing, and there are a few governors who I think might try it, if they had proof.

More media bias (of course, it’s CNN) using the word “controversial” sheriff.
By whose standards CNN? Yours? Drop dead.
