I recently made a private vow not to use the term Israel Firster again, for two reasons: its derogatory (and it was, initially, my vituperative response to being called anti-Israel by assorted neoconservative blowhards) and its inaccuratemost of those who are, I believe, unduly aggressive about Israels national security believe that the national security of Israel and the U.S. are identical. But how does one describe Sheldon Adelson, who saystongue slightly in cheek, it seemsthat he could spend $100 million to support Newt Gingrichs presidential campaign and who also is known to have only one public policy issue on his agenda: Israel or, perhaps more accurately, a Likudnik view of Israels national security priorities? Adelson compares himself to George Soros, who has spent a fortune supporting a variety of liberal causes and candidates. Fair enough except that Adelson has only one cause and, in this presidential campaign, one candidate. His obsession is his right and, after the Supreme Courts disastrous Citizens United decision, his privilege. But it is unseemly and potentially disastrous for the United States (and also, I believe, Israel). The effects of Adelsons money can be seen in Newt Gingrichs warmongering, as reported today in the New York Times:
And Newt Gingrich said at a stop in California recently that he supported Israels right to undertake an operation designed to dramatically slow down or disrupt the Iranian nuclear system.

Was this written by Joe Klein or Ron Paul?
And the problem with a Likudnik view is what, exactly?
Oh, right, because that would be warmongering or some crap.
If youd like to be on or off, please FR mail me.

I recently made a private vow not to use the term Israel Firster again,
BS at the beginning, if he made a "vow" not to use the term, he wouldn't use it. I suspect the accusations of antisemitism against MediaMatters and CAP were the issue.
for two reasons: its derogatory (and it was, initially, my vituperative response to being called anti-Israel by assorted neoconservative blowhards)
An admission of using a derogatory term against Jewish and Christian supporters of Israel
and its inaccuratemost of those who are, I believe, unduly aggressive about Israels national security believe that the national security of Israel and the U.S. are identical.
An admission that his use of the term was inaccurate, simply a convenient libel that gets the anti-Israel left excited. Not to mention Jewhaters.
Quality guy, this Joe Klein. I can see why he's at Time's Swampland. Nasty slimey things in the swamp.
In Joe Klein’s world Israel is the bad guy, and Iran is the good guy? What Iran does is never considered, “saber rattling.”
Do a web search, Joe Klein has nice things to say about Paul.
Did you find that junk ... in a swamp?
Yeh Joe maybe Israel will carry our water again like they did in Iraq in 1981. What makes Adelson worse than Mitt’s super pac? Newt Gingrich was supporting Israel before Adelson started supporting Newt. Nothing wrong with backing a guy who agrees with you. Thats what all of us are doing on a small scale.
What is wrong with that? Go Newt! Israel is a sovereign country. They have every right to do as they see fit to protect their country from aggression.
The US has the same right, of course. Except you'd never know it with the Moslem in the White House.
Joe Klein stated in the article that Israel was the only item on Mr. Adelson’s agenda, that is not true. In the Forbes magazine article Mr. Adelson stated that he was concerned about the “socialist style economy we’ve experienced for the past four years” and the “redistribution of wealth is the push for more socialism and to more of the government controlling people’s lives”
He sounds pretty Conservative to me and not just in because of one issue.
I agree. Steve Wynn too, who speaks more on economic issues. Maybe he'll kick in $100 million too.
I recently made a private vow not to use the term "Israel Firster" again... it was, initially, my vituperative response to being called "anti-Israel" by assorted neoconservative blowhards... But how does one describe Sheldon Adelson, who says -- tongue slightly in cheek, it seems -- that he could spend $100 million to support Newt Gingrich's presidential campaign... [and has] a Likudnik view of Israel's national security priorities? ...after the Supreme Court's disastrous Citizens United decision... The effects of Adelson's money can be seen in Newt Gingrich's warmongering... Israel's right to undertake "an operation designed to dramatically slow down or disrupt the Iranian nuclear system."Supporting Iran, which does nothing but beat the drum of war -- and Holocaust Denial -- *is* what Klein is doing here, and *is* itself warmongering, making the dumb bastard a hypocrite and demagogue. Again.
This Joe Klein (whose ugly mug can be seen in the PBS Clinton documentary broadcast the last two nights), upset and jealous that a Jewish conservative (Sheldon Adelson) is now stealing media attention from the Jewish Left, is way off base in his presumption that Newt Gingrich is Adelson's puppet with respect to Israel and Iran. The fact is that Gingrich has always been a staunch supporter of Israel's using any means of preserving her very existence against Arab and Islamic threats, from long before Adelson entered the picture.
Klein's quoting from the New York Times to support his position hardly lends any credibility to the thrust of his piece.
Joe would characterize you as an Israel-Firster, as he would me. To a Jewobsessive that Israel-Firster Newt is a pawn of Israel-Firster neocon Adelson is no surprise. Not sure when or where Joe wore the steel (actually I do, nowhere), but he probably figures his journalistic combat gives him license to question others loyalty. And when they’re Jews, it’s easy.
Thanks justiceseeker93.
Cool Adelson said lately ‘I am open (trasparent), I don’t hide my finance under different “names...”
Maybe he meant [despicable] J. Soros...
If you read Klein's first two sentence in the posted article, he admits to having used the term "Israel-firster," then vows not to use it again because it is derogatory, then essentially applies the term to Adelson.
This guy is deeply conflicted within his own mind.
When Joe Klein goes to the “Jewish Cultural Center” on the high holidays, does he think those security guards are there to protect him from:
a) Likudniks
b) Neocons
c) Sheldon Adelson
d) Iranian terrorists like those who killed hundreds at the Jewish Cultural Center in Buenos Aires?
No matter which way you slice it, only Iranian government officials and Iranian backed agents want him dead for who he was born as. Even most Arabs have given up the “kill all Jews” cause. Iranians foment it.
