New Rasmussen poll shows Santorum leading Romney 38%-34% in Michigan primary race.
Rasmussen Reports ^ | Tuesday, February 21, 2012 | Scott Rasmussen

Posted on 02/21/2012 1:05:05 PM PST by DestroyLiberalism

The Michigan Republican Primary is just a week away, and former U.S. Senator Rick Santorum is holding on to a small lead over former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney.

The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Likely Republican Primary Voters in Michigan shows Santorum with 38% of the vote to Romney’s 34%. Well behind are Texas Congressman Ron Paul with 10% support and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich at nine percent (9%). Only one percent (1%) prefers some other candidate in the race, while eight percent (8%) are undecided.

The margin between the top two candidates is little changed from last week when Santorum posted a 35% to 32% lead over Romney in the latter's native state. The story was drastically different three weeks ago when Romney coming off his big Florida Primary win led Santorum 38% to 17%.

When the other candidates are taken out of the equation, Santorum leads Romney 47% to 40% in a two-man race in Michigan. That’s a bit closer than Santorum’s 12-point lead last week.

This Michigan survey of 750 Likely Republican Primary Voters was conducted on February 20, 2012 by Rasmussen Reports. The margin of sampling error is +/- 4 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence. Field work for all Rasmussen Reports surveys is conducted by Pulse Opinion Research, LLC.

Just keep the lead through the debate, Rick. We can dispatch Romney in Michigan!

“When the other candidates are taken out of the equation, Santorum leads Romney 47% to 40% in a two-man race in Michigan.”

Newt, help us out at least at the debate tomorrow night.

We’re counting on it!

The GOAL is to beat Willard in Michigan with the strongest conservative there.

Now that Ari Fleisher has let the cat out of the bag, that the GOP establishment is switching to Santorum, things are going to get interesting.

Romney will be crying, of course, but nobody is going to be able to claim that Santorum would be an avenue of change.

Now I wished that Santorum would have endorsed Newt in Florida. I am sure that Newt would return the favor in Michigan had he done that. Lost opportunity. I don’t think that Newt will endorse him especially during the debate.

If Newt is there, he will be the only conservative there.

Fleisher blew Santorum’s last shred of cover by turning his way.

Remember when Romney took a huge crap on Newt at the start of the Florida debates by leveling so many accusations against him that he couldn’t respond? Yeah, he’ll be doing that against Santorum tomorrow night.

I doubt Rick will hold up to it any better than Newt did.

I respect Mitt Romney, but, he is one of these really super-bland people for whom I am left with a burning question,

Yo, you alive or what? I am talkin' to you! Gimme a sign.
Breathe on the mirror. Please.
Anything!

Like what-ho, mates, do they put Botox and Xanax in this guy's Ovaltine, or what? He has a split personality: Namby and Pamby. Mormon? No way! Joseph Smith and his teenage bride corps ... now that, that was a Mormon. Brigham Young, massacring gentile settlers! At least a sign of life. Is this plain vanilla, no-fat, no-sugar Ken-Doll-dweeb a typical Utah Mormon guy? If so it's a damn good thing they have The Book of Mormon. Ain't no way this milquetoast wimp is going to know a normal human woman "...in the Biblical Sense."

ayuh. Get'im outa heah!

Don’t do Willard’s bidding.

If Willard loses Michigan, it’s over for him.

Santorum-bashing Gingrich supporters need to STFU. We both need Romney to lose.

Disagree that anything Ari Fleischer says is noteworthy and I think your interpretation is stretching things a lot.

There were some Internet rumors a couple of days ago pertaining to a possible coordination between the Gingrich and Santorum campaigns. I guess we'll have to wait until tomorrow evening to see if there was any validity to these rumors.

Short memory. Three weeks ago everyone was urging Santorum to get out to clear the path for Newt.

Newt needs to stay in. He might get another momentum swing.

I disagree.

At this point,we are approaching the midnight hour.

Is this about Newt, or about making sure Mittens doesn’t get nomination?

Were the polling reversed at this point, I would feel Santorum should get out.

The longer we allow Romney to slime and beat up on conservatives, the harder it will be to defeat Obama.

This is going to be an ugly week. I'm already getting robocalled to death from Romney's crew. Romney's back is against the wall and knows that he can't lose this state.

Interestingly delegate wise, the allocation is by congressional district outside of two statewide at large delegates. That means Romney or Santorum could lose the state and win the most delegates.

If Santorum can hang on, Romney could be if not knocked out, forced to fight the rest of the way with a broken jaw. That helps both Santorum and Newt.

The bottom line here is this. Do you want Romney to win here or not? If not, Santorum's the only choice in the Michigan primary.

They sure aren’t switching to Santorum here. The establishment here hates both of them. Romney is their guy. Their only guy.

Too early to give up on Newt. Santorum is looking like a winner in Michigan anyway.

Romney is just not that popular. After all the ads and all the money and all the media support, his percentage hasn’t moved anywhere except down.

I ran the "coordination" to one of the few "establishment" Santorum supporters I know. He's very well connected in the Michigan party. He says there's no chance there's a coordination effort between Santorum and Romney. He said that Chuck Yob is supporting Santorum, and Sterling Corp people are running Mitt's campaign. Sterling and Yob have had a feud for 15 years going back to the John Engler years. That's so well known in Michigan that I even knew that.
