It doesn’t help that Newt keeps declaring that he isn’t going to attack then turning around and attacking.

Amateur means one who loves. Yes, Rick Santorum loves people. Odiateur means one who hates. It appears to me that Newt Gingrich has demonstrated time and time again that he hates people in general.
Actually, I’ve noticed that Newt doesn’t really attack Santorum. I think he likes him.
I like him.
Newt’s my #1. Santorum’s my #2. I’d be proud to vote for either one of them in the general.

Agree. I don’t see this as a slam against Santorum, at all, but against Obama.

I agree. Santorum will change the culture but inadvertently. He will not go in trying to change it, he will be try to work with it as it is. He'll be reaching out to Dems and Repubs, trying to form a new coalition. I'm not predicting failure, because I like Santorum. The good of the country depends upon his success in this.
Thats essentially what GW tried to do, and it bought him 8 years of pure grief.
Gingrich goes in knowing that changing the culture is key to everything. He goes in knowing the culture transcends party and will oppose him, both GOP and Dem, and he goes in knowing he has to confront them and defeat them. Both parties.

I am surprised that a bright guy like Newt Gingrich would mistake the words “amateur” and “incompetent”.
I think that was because GW didn't replace each and every one of the hires of the previous administration as did every incoming President before him. Right up to the end he had Clintonoids in power positions working against him.
