“Mexico, being a bad neighbor, actively encourages both illegal aliens and Mexican-Americans to have their first loyalty to Mexico. This hasn’t been a big issue thus far, but we still have porous borders and there’s a genuine danger that Mexico could become a failed state.”
‘Hasn’t been a big issue’? Who is this brainless idiot John Hawkins?
It’s been a huge issue in California for more than twenty years, and a national issue when we had to fight Dubya’s treacherous attempt to amnesty every one of them.

If you will read the first five posts, you will be able to get a good picture of what those days were like.
Hope you enjoy the reading
Which, in turn, is not nearly as ruinous as ignorant people VOTING.
“Mother Abigail “
I had completely forgotten about Mother Abigail. Those were some truly fascinating threads. Whatever happened to her?

The above link is to an article I wrote about my two years of interviewing and studying with her.
She is the most impressive person I have ever met, and I treasure the time I spent with her.
Enjoy the reading - it is a window into her soul.
Placemark for reading tomorrow.
The bankers' term of art is "repression".
Interest rates paid to depositors are held down (the purpose of the old Regulation Q of the 50's-70's) while the money supply is steadily and stealthily inflated at 4-5%.
This policy was adopted after World War II to destroy FDR's World War II debt (it screwed millions and millions of War Bond, Victory Bond, and Series E Savings Bond buyers among the U.S. public). It has been again made official policy by Greenspan, Bernanke, et al.
The source of the seismicity isn't necessarily magmatic in origin -- not necessarily due to movement of magma. It may be due to plate movement. The seismologists' determination of the epicenter's depth will tell you -- the Nazca plate is present at depth, but the depth is very great in Wyoming, near the leading edge of the plunging overridden plate, much deeper than the Yellowstone magma chamber. (National Geographic had a good article on the Yellowstone hot spot recently.)
The hot spot, of course, is connected by a magma feeder to the magma chamber; this feeder penetrates both plates and has emplaced the magma body in the North American plate.
One temblor probably does not signal a problem. Swarming low-intensity quakes would be another matter.
The reductions needed to stop the fiscal bleeding would set off huge riots. Pols know this and wont go there.
I somewhat reluctantly agree, but in reality, it is riots now or far worse later. I must state again and again. POLS who thing the American people are going to hold them blameless when TSHTF are dreaming.
Are you talking about Yellowstone or New Madrid?
A black swan I can foresee is Mecca turning into a glowing crater, and islam is over in less than one year, world-wide.
Without mecca, the “hard drive” of islam, there is no islam. There cannot be islam with the “5 minus 2 pillars of islam.” There will not be islam where the prayer is, “We used to believe our god was greatest.”
No mecca, no islam. Now that would be a Black Swan and a real game changer, after 1,400 years of jihad.
Sounds like the background of my second novel.
So the herd continues to blindly stampede toward the unseen cliff's edge.
Time to move to the back or sides of the herd, folks, and wander off to another more private pasture.
CW2 Cube, and all that.
I don't know that any of us thought that. What I found curious is the lack of mention of it virtually anywhere in the news.
My understanding is that in an area of known seismic activity, occasional events like this are a kind of safety value. The thing to worry about is NO activity, IOW, the pressure not being released.
But then again, geology is not my area of specialty. You want to talk tornadoes, I'm game but rocks? I'll leave that for the geologists.
Yeah, I’m a EE, and I saw the flaw in the lack of grounding as well.
Really, without some sort of physics lab level of simulator, one can’t know whether his best constructed faraday cage would actually work in the case of an EMP.
He did say that he chose FM because of its close frequency match to EMP frequencies. I don’t know - haven’t studied it so much. EMP is probably near the bottom of my list of “things that are gonna cause the StHTF”.
And no doubt America as it stands would allow a dictatorship.
