Greetings DB:

Hmmmm, waiting for the rabid Saint Santorum boosters to explain this one.

Frankly, on these 15 conservative issues there isn't a cent worth of difference between Newt and Rick. Either candidate would make a fine President; so why all the "Savage Love" for Rick Santorum?

1.) Repealing the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.
2.) Prohibiting abortion except where it is necessary to prevent death of the mother.
3.) Amending the U.S. Constitution to define marriage as only the union of one man and one woman.
4.) Permitting healthcare professionals to opt out of performing procedures that violate their moral or religious beliefs.
5.) Amending the U.S. Constitution to require Congress to balance the federal budget every year.
6.) Passing state laws that authorize local law enforcement officials to enforce federal immigration laws.
7.) Providing federal funding to Planned Parenthood and other organizations that provide abortions.
8.) Adding “sexual orientation,” “gender identity,” or “gender expression” to the protected classes of race, religion, age, sex, and ancestry in antidiscrimination laws.
9.) Allowing parents to use tax credits, vouchers, or educational savings accounts to enable children to attend any public, private, or home school.
10.) Setting a government cap on carbon emissions, requiring companies to buy emissions credits, and allowing them to trade any leftover credits (called “Cap and Trade”).
11.) Using a prospective federal judge’s ability to empathize with particular societal groups as a criterion for their nomination.
12.) Using human embryonic stem cells for research purposes.
13.) Repealing the federal Defense of Marriage Act, which states that marriage is the union of one man and one woman and declares states do not have to recognize same-sex marriage from other states.
14.) Enforcing federal laws vigorously against obscene hardcore pornography.
15.) Amending the federal Indian Gaming Regulatory Act to place further restrictions on the establishment and expansion of gambling by Indian tribes in the U.S.

Cheers,
OLA

A major difference is that Newt has been so radically right, so historical a figure, a conservative who was the Reagan of the legislative branch, a true, famous, dyed in the wool right winger, that he can move around in the political world and rub shoulders with liberals and not take on the smell.

Lesser mortals, soft, moderate, more ambiguous political types, we don’t trust them so much, especially if we are a conservative who is still trying to figure out who they are, and is still not certain what their politics are, and where their true, internal self, is at.

Based on Gingrich being known as one of the greatest fighters in conservative history.
I can’t imagine someone who lived through the history making 1994 conservative revolution, forgetting that incredible national onslaught against it’s leader, Newt Gingrich, until Palin, we had never seen anything like it.

I still have boxes of publications and newspapers from the time, the rage from the left was terrifying, people died, were destroyed, the federal government was killing people and burning them out in the Midwest, and in what had previously been “flyover country”, the heartland.
The left was sending a message to middle America, that they were not outside the reach of Government and the new policies. Middle America was to be taught that their God, and guns, and tax complaints, and conservative rebellion would not be tolerated, the 1990s became a dark period of open war by the hard left as led by the Clintons, and the conservatives led by Newt Gingrich.

The media was as radical as sharks smelling blood, and Newt as the opposition leader, was it’s biggest target.

You seemed to miss one very important issue in your laundry list of “goodies” you think are important.

I looked, but didn’t see the one about turning our country around to abide strictly by the writings of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.

Most of what you posted had absolutely nothing to do with the granted rights bestowed on the federal government by these documents. They are state’s rights granted by the Constitution....not federal.
