FLORENCE, AZ - Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu says allegations that he made threats against a man claiming to be his ex-lover are false.
Sheriff Babeu held a news conference in Florence Saturday afternoon after an article was printed in the Phoenix New Times Friday.
During the news conference, Babeu admitted that he is gay but that no threats were made to a man known as "Jose."
Did he resign his volunteer position with the Romney campaign during this press conference?

Embattled Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu, who is facing explosive allegations that he and his attorney tried to intimidate a former lover by threatening to have him deported, on Saturday quit his position as an Arizona co-chairman of former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney’s presidential campaign.
“Sheriff Babeu has stepped down from his volunteer position with the campaign so he can focus on the allegations against him,” Romney spokesman Ryan Williams told The Arizona Republic in a statement. “We support his decision.”
I'm happy for him.
Whatever. This does not bode well for his Congress run. Hope he gets this mess cleared up.

I don’t know how Babeu could be gay with somebody saying that he is a homosexual sheriff that misused his office to threaten a homosexual lover.

Wow. A co-worker’s husband is chief of police for an Arizona town I won’t name...but so far everything she has said about Babeu has turned out to be true. Except for the part about threats against an illegal alien lover. I hadn’t heard that one and will certainly ask about it next week. I so hope it’s not true. He’s been a great Sheriff, so this would be very unfortunate. Funny how the slimy Leftist papers are all about privacy for Democrat homos, but boy howdy do they ever jump the shark over outing Republicans.

Sheriff Babeu appeared to be a stalwart on the border but it seems that his personal choices may have lead to unintended consequences.
