"There really isn't any distinction between combat forces and support forces on todays battlefield because many of the battles are fought by units moving supplies, keeping the peace and guarding bases. When that gate, office or mess hall your working in gets attacked your a combat force like it or not." There is a vast difference between the Infantry and soldiers of various other MOS's who happen to need to use their rifles in an emergency. My comments were specifically about the Infantry, not whether or not women should serve in other capacities in the Army. There are many jobs for women in the Army, but the combat arms don't happen to be among them.
In my 33+ and still going years in the military I have been Armor, Infantry, Trans and they are all starting to look alike. Infantry soldiers rarely hump a ruck anymore, they do a little more in Afghanistan. There is no typical mission and it seems everyone is being used for a task that's not really in their lane.
I do concur that in most pure infantry situations that most females wouldn't be able to hack the usual load. 80 plus pounds of gear before you even add your weapon, ammo and ballistic vest with plates and combat helmet.
