Rights: The House Minority Leader says self-insurance is no protection against the government's contraceptive mandate, while California's junior senator says people have a right to be insured but no right to practice their faith.
Lost in the phony "compromise" on the Health and Human Services mandate on religious institutions being forced to pay for contraceptive services was the fact that many such institutions are self-insured. So making insurance companies pay instead is a distinction without a difference. Sometimes these religious institutions are their own insurance company.
Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who once complained that her fellow Catholics had this "conscience thing," says it doesn't matter. At a press conference Thursday, Pelosi was asked by the Weekly Standard's John McCormack, "The Catholic Church in Washington, D.C., is a self-insured institution.
"Should the Catholic Church in Washington, D.C., be required to pay for these morning-after pills and birth control if they find that morally objectionable?"
Pelosi said they should, casting the controversy as a women's health issue, embracing the mindset of ObamaCare and HHS guidelines that define pregnancy as a preventable disease. Government, in her view, should stay out of our bedrooms but not our church pews.
Pelosi and those who share their views are never asked the obvious question. If a job seeker finds a prospective employer's insurance coverage inadequate or objectionable, why do they take the job? If already employed, aren't they free to look for another job?
Issues of religious freedom and conscience are irrelevant if you believe, as Sen. Barbara Boxer, D.-Calif., does, that health insurance as defined by the government is a right, even if our reading of the Constitution finds no such right mandated by our Founding Fathers.

His lips were moving should have been the first clue ... and only clue needed! If it weren’t the Progressive/Democratic party, it would probably be a statistical anomaly that so many pathological liars were located in a single group at one time.
When Fr. Jenkins betrayed his faith and invited Obama to receive an honorary law degree at Notre Dame, we already knew that Obama was an extreme abortion lover, who had voted three times in Illinois to kill babies already born alive.
And we also knew that he had done absolutely nothing as a lawyer, and had written not a single law article at Harvard or while he was working as an adjunct law instructor. Nothing.
This deserved an honorary degree from Notre Dame? For what? Fr. Jenkins is a traitor to his Church and his God. And no signs that he has ever repented.
Get thee behind me Obama
Any Catholic who voted for Obama{or anyone pro-abortion} is going against the teachings of the church.
But when you have social liberals in high places in the church, anything can happen.
