KENTWOOD Jerome Bush, an 81-year-old lifelong Republican, shook GOP presidential hopeful Mitt Romneys hand Wednesday, recalling doing the same with his father, George Romney, during his campaign for governor more than 40 years ago.
I voted for his dad, said Bush, the former supervisor of Fillmore Township in Allegan County. Right now, Im still undecided if Im going to vote for him.
It illustrates the difficulty the former Massachusetts governor is facing on the 2012 campaign trail.
Three polls released Wednesday show Rick Santorum ahead of Romney in the state where he was born and raised, a place once considered a clear cut win. One of those surveys projected Santorum to gain the party nomination, but Romney still holds a clear edge in collecting delegates, financial backing and organizational strength.
All of that had no impact on a crowd of 700, largely Romney supporters, who gathered at office systems company Compatico Wednesday, cheering wildly when he blasted President Barack Obama, his policies and the labor unions that Romney claims Obama has allowed to run the country.
Romney, whose criticism was trained on Obama and not Santorum, said hell take the fight to unions, putting an end to crony capitalism that has contributed to job losses across the country.
In his first Michigan campaign appearance, Romney repeated that the administrations auto bailouts that saved GM and Chrysler were a mistake. State and national Democrats have challenged that notion.

It will happen. Bye bye Milt.
Scorched earth.
OK Santorum supporters. That’s your cue! Vote in droves!!
Wanna bet $10,000 dollars Mitt?
I intend to show Mitt the back of my Michigan hand.
We are living 4 years of arrogance(D) in the Oval Office right now, why would we want 4 years more of arrogance(R)?
Dim-Mitt is going DOWN.
I’ll have something to say about that. I want Mitt to have a nice statewide loss and nice 7th District loss.
Make that 2 votes from the 7th.
I think that is one of the biggest reasons of Mitt’s unelectability outside of Mitt’s phoniness. As worst, he’s an a-hole. At best, he had very bad judgment.
And it was a hunting type of dog too...grrrr.
People will just tune out those ads because to many and people will get ad fatigue.
Think how many millions the Newt and Romney camps must have spent over the past month trying to unearth even the slightest scandal, even the merest inappropriateness that they could blow out up of all proportion, involving Rick Santorum to try to throw cold water on his surging poll numbers, and yet they’ve come up empty.
So, if Rick wins the nomination, the Republicans will have a likeable, articulate, fully-vetted Conservative saint in an everyman sweater vest to represent them in the presidential election. If this were Sodom or Gemorrah, Rick would be in trouble. But this is America, so his chances are good.
“Romney, whose criticism was trained on Obama and not Santorum..”
The Romney sleaze machine WILL be trained on Santorum a day or two before the February 28th primary so that Santorum will not have time to correct the Romney slander, libel & lies.

Sorry, Mittens — it’ll happen if my wife and I have anything to say about it...
And my sister, too!
I’m going to celebrate with a Guinness Extra Stout Ale..his loss in MI that is. :)
To whom are your wife and sister leaning toward?
