Obama administration deletes religious service for student loan forgiveness

The federal government will no longer forgive student loans in exchange for public service if that service is related to religion, according to a new Education Department rule from the Obama administration.

The Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) program announced the change Jan. 31 with little fanfare, while most of Washington was focused on the new ObamaCare rule requiring religious organizations to provide free birth control through health insurance.

“Generally, the type or nature of employment with the organization does not matter for PSLF purposes,” reads the new language.

“However, if you work for a nonprofit organization, your employment will not qualify for PSLF if your job duties are related to religious instruction, worship services, or any form of proselytizing,” the announcement said. Also, the organization cannot be a labor union or a partisan political organization.

Congress created the loan forgiveness program in 2007 to encourage graduates to enter the public service field. In exchange for that service, the remaining balance of student loans would be considered repaid after 120 full payments.

I have never heard of this program and I’m not surprised that BO’s minions wouldn’t be pleased with anything religious (Just watch what happens to them physically when they come in contact with Holy water)

But, if, as with most loans, payments are made monthly, the participants are still required to make 10 YEARS of full payments against their loan.

Just how many years do these students get the loans for??? I took out one loan and I had 10 years to pay it back (did it in 6 cause I hate debt).

1. Cassius Clay may not be excluded from military service due to religious objections
2. The Reverends Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson may not get the non-profit incentives of being part of “clergy”

Established by 2007's H.R. 2669, College Cost Reduction and Access Act sponsored by George Miller (D-CA) and, obviously, signed into law by Bush43, Biden was a YES and Obama (shockingly! /s) did not vote.

As the only 2012 presidential candidates in Congress at that time, neither Bachmann or Paul voted for it. Neither did McCain.

Estimated cost was $1.2 BILLION for the 2008-2012 timeframe.
