Hadassah’s leftist reproductive rights push betrays its ‘Zionist’ name

According to a recent article, Hadassah congratulated President Obama for dictating that the government take over the contraception and abortion business. One wonders what in the world a group calling itself The Women’s Zionist Organization of America is doing in the health care field. "Zionist" pertains to Jewry, Israel and the preservation of the Jewish people. Either change the name of the group or focus on dealing with Zionism and all that it stands for. You can't have it both ways.

Getting involved in the issue of public funding for contraception and abortion is a "no win" for Hadassah. It is purely a political one, and this group's left-leaning history has been a source of contention for many years.

It shilled for Hillary Clinton in 1999 when she was sniffing around for Jewish support to run for senator in New York. She got Hadassah's highest honor, the Henrietta Szold award, in order to cover up...

Either change the name of the group or focus on dealing with Zionism and all that it stands for. You can't have it both ways.

"No win" would accurately describe things here. I am, in fact, going to strongly recommend to my wife that she resign from Hadassah for this very reason. Women's reproductive rights (which are NOT the main issue here, anyway) have absolutely NOTHING to do with Hadassah's mission. My wife joined out of respect for my grandmother )of blessed memory), who belonged for over 50 years. Well, that's coming to an end.

As for the "reproductive rights" claims...that's a bunch of crap. TODAY it is this issue, and tomorrow it will be something else - perhaps the kosher slaughter of animals that some other unelected bureaucrat will decide is "inhumane" (when it is exactly the opposite). No, this isn't about contraception, it is about the government utilizing its power to coerce people, companies and institutions into doing things that their beliefs don't allow. This is EXACTLY what the First Amendment forbids the government from doing.

Even on the issue of "reproductive rights" the Left is wrong. No one - NO ONE - has claimed that it should be government policy to forbid people from using contraceptives of one kind or another. Anyone is perfectly free to go out and buy them using THEIR OWN MONEY. My attitude is: "If you want to have a good time having sexual relations with a consenting adult (or several), fine. Just don't expect me to pay for it." Of course, the libs want to make everyone dependent upon the government to forever cement their hold on power, so their stance on this doesn't surprise me, but my position stands.

In conclusion, Hadassah and every other religion-based organization that claims that this flap over the recently-announced Obamacare regulation is about contraception is LYING, and they can all go screw themselves (with birth control paid for by themselves, if they wish to use it).
