Train derailment about two weeks ago on this same line. If it had been high speed, that town wouldn’t be there today and many would be dead.

That accident was on track owned by Norfolk-Southern.
The ‘High-Speed’ track is the old Michigan Central Line, on of the few tracks actually owned by Amtrak. They have been working on this line for more than a decade, bringing it up to standard.
The biggest part of making a line “High-Speed” is eliminating crossings like the one where this accident happened. Amtrak has been able to do exactly that on much of the old MC line, but has no control over what NS does.
