The Humboldt County Sheriff's Office is seeking two unidentified male suspects after an Orick resident reported using a handgun to avert an attempted home invasion robbery early Sunday morning.
The sheriff's office was notified at approximately 7 a.m. on Sunday that an attempted home invasion robbery allegedly had just occurred on the 100 block of Robinson Road in Orick. Sheriff's deputies responded to the scene and met with two victims, a 26-year-old female and a 35-year-old male, according to a release from the sheriff's office.
According to the release, the victims told the deputies that they were asleep with their 3-year-old child when two adult males, approximately 5 feet, 10 inches tall and wearing all black, forced their way into the residence and into the bedroom. They said the suspects were armed with possibly a rifle or shotgun and a handgun.
The victims reported that the suspects demanded money and the keys to the victims' car and then fired off two rounds from a weapon, the release states.
The male victim was able to obtain a handgun during the robbery attempt, which he fired several times at the suspects, according to the release. The suspects reportedly immediately fled in an unknown direction and did not appear to take anything from the home.
The release states that he victims and child were uninjured during the robbery attempt and do not believe the suspects were injured. The victims were unable to provide any further suspect information to the deputies.
Deputies found spent shell casings and damage to the residence, including bullet holes consistent with the victims' account as to what occurred, according to the release.
