Following discovery, the Falklands were first settled in 1766...by British colonists! At the time, there were no other inhabitants!
In other words, the Falklands were British before there was an Argentina! Spain created the Viceroyalty of Rio de la Plata in 1776. It was not until 1816 that Argentina secured her independence from Spain.

In case you were wondering, Tierra del Fuego is in Chile -- not Argentina. And I've yet to hear Chile put in a claim for the Falklands, based on the wanderings of pre-historic Tierra del Fuegans. But they've a better claim than the Argentinians, idiot.

Colonialism? The people who live there want to remain part of the UK. The islands never belonged to Argentina...briefly they sent a garrison there but that was it. That does not give them claim to the islands.
The islands are part of the UK. Argentina lead a war of aggression against the UK in the 1980s to try to overtake the islands and they lost the war - the matter is settled. There is nothing to negotiate - Argentina has no claim to the islands.
