Her CPAC speech today was a barn-burner, hitting every conservative, small-government point and pumping out soundbites that will no doubt resonate in the public dialogue for days to come. Some of my favorites:
Drain the Jacuzzi!
This government isnt too big to fail, its too big to succeed.
We dont want an economy built to last, we want an economy built to grow.
This is Obamas Washington.
Her signature line in this speech was The door is open. She meant that political conditions are becoming conducive to a renewed commitment to small government and liberty. Peoples mindsets are changing. We are not governed by the rules of political seasons past; the door is open to choosing our candidates and charting our nations future on a different basis. The door is open to not accepting a continuation of the false compromises of previous decades.
**snip**
We cant have a candidate who sounds like Mitt Romney, but will lead the way a small-government conservative would. Thats not an option. What were doing in this primary season is coming to grips with that reality. I think Palin knew instinctively that we would have to, before it would make sense for her to jump back into the electoral fray.
She believes God has a plan for her life, and that He gives her a certainty in her spirit about the big choices she has to make. I suspect she has had a peaceful certainty that joining the campaign as a candidate for 2012 was not something she should do. If she were to analyze it, she might say that God knows better than any of us how the voters concerns and expectations are going to change.
Meanwhile, the door is open.

Great post TOL!
However you missed the ever discourteous Sarah Barracuda.
Yeah, she asked you to think.
Not so fondly regarded on Twitter member, evaottesmith @evaottesmith tweeted:
Palin has the most irritating voice! And yes, you are an idiot! #CPAC

While MSNBC's Chris Matthew brags he gets a tingle up his leg when Obama speaks..at CPAC was a sensational moment for Palin, as was also Kelly Clarkson's Super Bowl 46, 2012, National Anthem--it just becomes inspirational-like how Reagan made many feel.
I have never rushed to join the Palin for President Club, because I worry over damage to Palin & her family in such a hate charged atmosphere against her, and feel she can unite under moments like at CPAC, in an outside roll...but prominent.
BUT I will say in my Comment #108, below ur comment..Palin enjoyed a shining "star" moment at CPAC...Palin showed definite leadership ability.
I remember I used the word shrill [didnt really mean shrill but I posted it so I owned it] once on FR for her voice [she was shouting]. For that I am still pulling arrow tips out of my PC screen here. Then I was thinking the other day after watching the film, Iron Lady; Thatcher was set up with a voice coach for the same shrill comments, even Hillary Clinton shout outs got voice comments, but then the King's Speech, which went to the male side with his stutter. Even Susan Collins [ME] is often criticized for her speech which she slows down to counteract a disability, Ataxia a rare form of Cerebral Palsy.
I deserved those arrows! Sorry...
I know Gunner is you friend also. But this isn’t a matter/issue of putting Palin on a pedestal for him. Several weeks back I had a go-around with him where he (his own words) “implied” Palin was a prostitute. And in his typical snarky way, tried over multiple posts twisting around like a fish on a hook in an attempt to deflect the issue. I am reminded of Pissant.
You and I know Palin isn’t Christ incarnate as do 00.0% of her supporters. She is just a politico - but one many of us believe in, certainly one who supports the values of Free Republic. Gunner and anyone else is 110% free to believe and comment otherwise.
But people’s comments like his are what led to Jim laying down the law aren’t they? Most of us took the not too subtle hint and stopped attacking our remaining candidates in Jim’s house.
But Gunner seems to think he’s special because, why, I don’t know. Likes attention I guess - good or bad doesn’t seem to matter. But rules apply to us all, or they don’t. You know via our conversation that I support Jim’s edict more than probably anyone here. And I see Gunner’s continual flouting of that as a slap to the Boss’s face.
But that’s just me.
I very much value you as a friend. Never doubt that. And I understand you are standing up for your friend HG. But he should stick to his blog cop routine and stop trashing Palin with his backhanded wholly unsupported ‘speculation’ and passive-agressive BS - which are the very tactics used by the left. I don’t see how anyone could disagree with that.
Summed up, if Gunner doesn’t want to be thought of/called a liberal, then logic dictates he stop behaving like one on threads where Palin is concerned. None of us, least of all myself are perfect. But then I, and the others who have criticized Humblegunner on this thread and those like it not going out of my/our way to troll people.
Humblegunner is very much a troll on Palin threads.
Edit - 99.9%
Thats what I get for typing in the dark... ;)
So what seems to be the problem?
The problem Gunner is that you are a PDS troll that adds nothing but BS to Palin threads. You feel the need to troll about any thread with her name in the title. If you lack the self awareness to grasp that simple fact, then perhaps, IMO, you should talk to a teacher about upping your comprehension skills.
Did you or do you ever provide backing for your comments? Like the ‘Implied’ one I referenced above? No, but you sure like the attention you get.
It's nice that you have an opinion. I have one too. How cool is that?
You feel the need to troll about any thread with her name in the title.
On many of those threads can be found mindless worship and fawning. I dislike those.
Did you or do you ever provide backing for your comments? Like the Implied one I referenced above?
Fire up a link to it, I'll be glad to clarify anything you failed to grasp.
Why are you bloody pissed off that I don't like Palin?
Is she a relative? A donor to your charity? Your cook?
I am so bloody pissed off because you can’t follow the same directions the rest of us do.
I am none to thrilled that people can’t have a simple adult discussion about Palin without people like yourself ‘pooping in the petunias’.
I am mystified why YOU hate her with such vitriolic passion.
You know full well I cannot link your ‘implication’ comment Gunner. The Mods pulled it. I seem to remember you accusing me of having dropped a dime on you - when I had not. Seems you make a lot of off the cuff accusations about people you can’t support - Palin for instance.
Now I too admit that drooling fanboys of Palin or anyone else make me ill. But then lets say I don’t like Justin Beiber...so logic dictates I don’t go to Justin Beiber sites.
You on the other hand go out of your way to flame Palin on threads you KNOW are positive to her. Do you think your opinion is so great that all must hear it?
I don’t. I don’t think mine is either.
Please stop trashing Sarah Palin on FR.
Obviously I do or I wouldn't be here.
I am mystified why YOU hate her with such vitriolic passion.
"Hate" is a bit strong. I dislike the folks that fawn over her more that I dislike her. True story.
Seems you make a lot of off the cuff accusations about people you cant support - Palin for instance.
I don't recall ever saying I couldn't support her.
The over-the-top worshipful posts don't help, though.
Surely I'm not looking to her for "salvation".
I too admit that drooling fanboys of Palin or anyone else make me ill.
We agree.
But then lets say I dont like Justin Beiber...so logic dictates I dont go to Justin Beiber sites.
Flawed analogy. This isn't a "Palin" site.. it's Free Republic.
Where both of us have posted for years before Our Sarah showed up,
and likely will continue to do so for years afterward.
You on the other hand go out of your way to flame Palin on threads you KNOW are positive to her.
I don't like lima beans either. Post threads about how great they
are and yeah, I'll show up saying that lima beans suck.
Do you think your opinion is so great that all must hear it?
It's my opinion and the only one I have. Is it less valid because you do not share it?
Yes sir.
Consider it done.
THANK YOU so much, Jim, for that. Amen, and amen.
I feel I must tell you Jim, that it has seemed for a long time that the Sarah Palin threads belonged under a Religon topic as caucus only.
I’ve had to deal with the impact of Sarah Palin longer than most on this board knew of her name.
The results of her policies cut business, increased social spending in Alaska. The taxes placed on oil companies stiffled new capital investment while at the same time it was booming in Canada and the lower 48.
After leaving Alaska when her tax program slashed new projects, I saw my previous engineering group fall to 1/3 its size.
Once again, I have committed my work back to Alaska. I type this while back in Anchorage. The prominent hope for the oil companies and many, many associated businesses, is the draconian taxes called ACES put in place during her administration will finally be brought to an end.
