Au contraire. Medicare was never self-sufficient nor will it ever be. For example, the premiums paid to fund Part B (and Part D) only cover 25 percent of the costs. The other 75% must come from the General Fund, which is why eventually Medicare will consume the entire federal budget unless it is reformed. Medicare Part A has been in the red since 2008, i.e., it is paying out more in benefits than it is taking in through the payroll tax. Its trust fund (IOUs) will be exhausted in 2020 or so and the only reason that has been extended was because of the Obamacare cut in Medicare funding.
You gotta admit that obama is all govt. all the time and if they can kill any partially funded system like medicare/SS and make it 100% funded by govt. and then Cloward Piven everything they can overwhelm govt.budgets/spending getting their wish.
