In the VN war, I was told by an ANG B-52 driver he transported loaded 52’s to Viet Nam once a month, dropped his load(Rolling Thunder) went back to California, went back to his job as a cop and received his ANG monthly required drill AND combat pay. Never actually saw VN, in his monthly 40 minutes over the country during the entire four years he did this.
Yeah, people like that make me pretty angry. Don’t get me wrong, I love the nice little extras you get for time downrange (Family separation, tax free, hostile fire pay). But honestly, I would happily go downrange for free. The only people that will be hurt by this are freeloaders, who in my opinion are a disgrace to the uniform. General Washington and his boys marched on bloody feet to get to Valley Forge. Someone who complains because they only got $7.50 instead of $225 EXTRA while only in theater for 1 day can come complain to me and my trusty Tomahawk.
