LOS ANGELES - Whitney Houston, who ruled as pop music's queen until her majestic voice and regal image were ravaged by drug use, erratic behavior and a tumultuous marriage to singer Bobby Brown, has died. She was 48.

Bobby Brown destroyed her. Of all the people in the world, she had to choose this scumbag. Very, very sad. If she had chosen better, like Tina Turner after she dumped Ike Turner, she’d be in clover today, instead of pushing up daisies.
Rest in peace Whitney. You were one of the greatest singers of all time.
Old Chinese story, applying to drugs as well, and on faster timetable for women:
Man takes a drink
Drink takes a drink
Drink takes the man

It really is a tragedy. Perhaps only another addict, a recovering one such as me, truly can empathize and understand, but it is a true tragedy when one is exposed to the Program of Recovery and then goes back out. There's a softer, gentler way to live, and some people just cannot embrace that.
We completely lose the power of choice over drugs and alcohol. We are COMPLETELY defenseless against our first drink or drug.
Only our Higher Power can relieve us of active addiction.
I believe she was a Christian.
Agreed.
I hear you, but for God’s grace...
She was a talented tormented soul with a bad problem. Rest in Peace. My heart goes out to her family and children.
Curiously, only a WEAK person can beat it. The strong die. Weak people like me, surrender our will and our lives to the care of our Higher Power; we surrender to the fact we are powerless over our addiction, and that our life is completely unmanageable. When we finally give up fighting, we actually have a shot.
Dude I have been to hell and back myself. It is such a shame that such a beautiful talent cannot get that freedom.
I am very proud of you, Lazamataz. I will pray for your continued strength. IMHO, addiction is so horrifying and it just seems to completely take over a person’s mind, body and spirit. I am so HAPPY that you received help. Hugs, Mom

If you don’t take care of yourself - You surely cannot help anyone else
Addictions are something one usually volunteers to partake of
.
Thank you for your testimony. Praying it helps someone struggling with addiction.
Just like Amy Winehouse, if it isn’t from natural causes - I’m sad to say ...
Hang in there!
Yeah, I thought about her right after I heard this.
Fashion Police weren’t too kind to her today on E!
Beverly Hills paramedics found singer Whitney Houston unresponsive at a room at the Beverly Hilton hotel and declared her dead after performing CPR on her for about 20 minutes, officials said. The Beverly Hills Fire Department said they were called to the hotel around 3:30 p.m. and she was pronounced dead around 4 p.m.
Her cause of death was unknown....
Gotchya. We are the lucky ones.
It is such a shame that such a beautiful talent cannot get that freedom.
Addicts and alcoholics are by-and-large some of the most intelligent and gifted people I have ever met. No suprise that talents like hers are prone to the disease.
Laz, you are a voice of reason in this sad thread. Yes, Whitney messed up by marrying Brown, but once she allowed herself to be seduced into his evil lifestyle of drugs, her life was not her own. It really surprises me when even Christians fall into the trap of drug abuse. (I’m probably naive in this way, I know.)
