Santorum certainly wasn't alone in his preference for Romney over John McCain in 2008. May conservatives were desperate in 2008 for a not-McCain and rushed to embrace Romney because there were no other options at that point. So Santorum is certainly not the only conservative who was fooled by Romney's fake to his right. But he's the only one now running for president who believed Romney had become a true conservative. If Romney played him so effortlessly, what would Putin do to a President Santorum?

Let’s look past his rather lame remarks on the conversion by campaign fire of Mitt Romney...
to his comments on Huckabee.
Santorum says Huckabee is a great conservative but — but he’s weak on national defense. If he were running for governor of the US, Rick says, that’d be fine, but not president. Say what? Does this mean Rick’s comfortable with Huck’s domestic and social agenda?
I continue to have my doubts about Rick Santorum, but then, I do not agree with him that people grow up fast on the campaign trail.

Looking back, it might have been a monumental mistake to support McCain. If Romney was the candidate, he might have defeated Obama, he at least would have put up a much more vigorous campaign than McCain did. McCain brought in many conservatives by bring Sarah Palin on board. This might have, unintentionally, made it easier for Obama to win.

I cannot fault anyone for choosing Romney over McCain in 2008.

I suggest conservatives fall in behind Santorum rather than taking shots at him that just help Romney. Newt will NEVER, NEVER win the nomination. Your choice is Santorum or Romney. It is up to you.

I tried to tell him. I tried telling all the candidates.

Forget about trashing your opponent. Especially if your opponent is someone you've promoted in the past. It will only come back to bite you in the Biden.

Instead, focus on Conservatism. Focus on freedom. Focus on what you want to do as President to make America great again.

Also, forget about patting yourself on the back for all the wonderful legislation you authored, co-authored, helped push through, etc.

To us (at least to me), "passing legislation" means bigger government.

Interesting question, what would Putin do to ____.

Let’s compare the next imminent struggle we face, to the last fight for civilization. Putin is Stalin, who was less of a threat than Hitler and against the Nazis.

Putin, even with his horns and hooves and tail, hates the Islamists and recognizes the danger they present.

There are but two candidates with the fortitude and common sense to see the threat of Islam and they are Gingrich and Santorum.

Putin would not even want to sit down with anybody else, and unfortunately we are going to need his cooperation in the next war.

Following Duncan Hunter’s dropping out of the 2008 race, I decided Mitt was the best candidate remaining, and donated.

That was before I came to conclude, that it was Romney’s machine which sabotaged Sarah Palin, Herman Cain, and was the problem in the GOP.

Romney does not seek to do what is right. Romney seeks the presidency as an end. I no longer trust the man.

Ever think maybe Santorum in his own way, traveled that same decision loop about Romney?

How about we stop tearing down Santorum. After all, that helps who exactly?...

Barack Obama, or Mitt Romney. Take your pick.

2007/2008 wasn’t exactly a prime choice of Conservative options, just like now. At the same time and before this was going on, Newt was gaga over Rudy- not much different than Romney on the issues.

Just one example.

http://firstread.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2008/01/15/4430824-newt-gives-rudy-credit

Maybe we can focus on what issues they bring to the role of Commander in Chief of the US Armed Forces and not stuff like this which isn’t part of the Constitutionally mandated role in the job.

The way I see it, we have two halfway decent options, Newt or Santorum. The other two are completely out of the question. So why would we help destroy either Newt or Santorum? Let’s deal with cleaning the overt RINOs out.

For Gingrich? You? You’ll tear down conservative candidates for Gingrich? Newt Gingrich? How far we have fallen.

BTW, who did Newt Gingrich endorse in 2008? Did he do anything for any candidate in 2008? I haven’t found it on the web, maybe you know, since apparently it is critically important to you.

Santorum’s the only one left, but Herman Cain endorsed Romney in 2008 at about the same time as Santorum, and also said he was a conservative, and said other really nice things. And there was a time Cain was the one that was going to save conservatives in this election, and a lot of people here loved him, and then moved to McCain.

Clearly you aren’t one of them, if endorsing Romney and calling him conservative is this important, you would have never supported Herman Cain, and would have been a Gingrich supporter a long time ago.

BTW, did Sarah Palin actually endorse any candidate for President in 2008?

Politics is politics, it's dirty business and only fools will think otherwise. This year you can refer to any politician as your friend and support him/her but two, four, six, etc...years down the road when you're running against the same person, all gloves are off.....

It's been that way since the day this country was founded and it will continue until the end of time......

This is such a non news story......
