Thank you for your thoughtful response. I am a bit disappointed by some of the sarcasm on this thread as I have a good friend who is battling early onset Alzheimer's disease and I see nothing humorous about the situation!

In my family/clan, we have a member who suffers from it. Not damn good. An emotional rollercoaster for family members. Unlike AIDS or other “pc” disease, the patient does not even know who you are even though you grew up with that person.
