LOS ANGELES (CBS) With the city going broke you may be surprised to find out that Los Angeles is the proud owner of a million dollar yacht and it is about to undergo hundreds of thousands of dollars in renovations at taxpayer expense.
As the head of the Port of Los Angeles raced down the hall, they tried to block our camera and dodged our questions, not wanting to talk about a yacht owned by the port, which is a city agency.
But the mayor said that it is not what we think.
Its not a yacht. Its a boat, Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa said.

And it will be a "green boat" thanks to the taxpayers.
Laughable.
Actually, the yacht broker is WAY high on the value of this yacht. There are some similar to this selling in the northwest for 300,000 to 400,000....
600,000 for a couple of new diesel motors, damn, are they gold plated, that is about six times real world cost.
Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa...a phoney and a SCAM ARTIST!
A 42 year old “yacht”, Hatteras I think and kind of a POS build by today’s standards at that! Guttng it and starting over ON TAXPAYER’S DOLLARS had to be done. /sarc

It’s not the cost of the engines. It’s the cost of the “GREASE” used to get them in the first place.
“Hey, when it’s taxpayer money being used, go large or don’t go at all.”
Seems to be the motto of just about any civil “servant” holding a purse string.
There was one comment in the article from a fella who re-engined (thanks to CARB) a whole bunch of earth movers for way less than that ~$700k.
Don’t forget the “green premium”.
Antonio “LA RAZA, MeCHA, Aztlan Reconquista” Villar, a real piece of work. Never worked an honest job in his life. Another community organizer.
This is an abject lesson on what “sanctuary” cities in the USA are going to look like soon.
I’m still waiting to see 1 million trees planted and a million potholes fixed.
He has a “nice smile” though.
What will it be worth after the engines are replaced?
They’re really “special” engines. Green engines. So special, they cost almost $700k.
Maybe while they’re at it...they’ll place a lampost in the deck.....plenty of rope I’m sure...
I wish I could remember the boat's name. It was something "in your face" like "Honest Graft" or "The Spoils."
