The Cuban Missile Crisis was in October 1962.

It was John F. Kennedy that faced down the Societs and he was assassinated in November, 1963.

Kennedy did face down the crises, but if not for Kennedy we would not have had a crisis in the first place. He sold out Cuba at the Bay of Pigs.
