ATLANTA - Mitt Romney says he's a better tea party candidate than his rivals for the Republican presidential nomination.
The former Massachusetts governor lashed out at Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum on Wednesday, the day after losing contests in Missouri, Minnesota and Colorado.
Romney says his opponents are members of a Republican Party that had lost its way. He says spending on lawmakers' pet projects doubled under Gingrich, a former House speaker. He says Santorum, a former senator, was a major proponent of that type of spending.
Romney says the tea party movement was created to fight Washington insiders who spend too much and that Santorum and Gingrich "are the very Republicans who acted like Democrats."

It's shows that they are likely in collaboration for the top spots, double teaming to deny the American public their pick.
Be careful. Without revisiting the time line, there was a point in time where things were fundamentally down to Huckster, McCain, and Romney. Of those three, I’d have taken Romney, too.
That idiot sent me 2 letters asking for support. I said, “Mitt, go home! We don’t need you!”
The tea he brews can only be used as an emetic.
The largest majority of FReepers in ‘08, when down to those two, sided with Mitt. Now, with a choice, we don't.
Please don’t take it personally.
That was a general 11th commandment admonition to everyone.
If I were a communist/marxist/socialist/fascist/useless-waste-of-oxygen/useful-idiot,
I would be reading and recording every bit of eat-your-own portrayed on FR for use later on in the election process.
I have to stop here for a minute to reflect on free elections... sans new black painters and acorn sieu corruption and enemidia misrepresentation and...
Ya know, the optimist says “The glass is half full.”
The pessimist says “The glass is half empty.”
The awesomist says “Holy crap, there’s a dragon in that glass!”
There’s a need for TEA party awesomeness in this election, and beyond.
I understand they used to call it the silent majority. I’ll pray for my Catholic FRiends to call for an end to the perversion of the first amendment by executive decree. I’ll pray for justice to be done in the perversion of the second amendment by the justice department giving guns to drug cartels for campaign cash. Shall we visit the fourth, fifth, tenth and eighteenth?
Hell, I’m not even a Republican. Our local republican TEA party darling, (former chief of staff to Jon Huntsman) Jason Chaffetz, has, naturally, endorsed Romneycare before the convention. Of course, here in Mormon land, he hasn’t hurt his future prospects. After all, Romneycare rescued the 2002 Olympics and turned it into a moneymaker... at the same time diverting the grand juries from indicting the sitting governor and cronies for the scandal that never saw the light.
If the enemy is the leftist regime, we FReepers need to get our eyes out of our navels and work to plan the defeat of the fascist takeover of the republic.
Pick your battles well. Know the enemy. Pray for the republic.
There’s a dragon in that glass.
Prove it or STFU
Yes, and Tea Partiers toss it into the bay where it belongs.
I bet Mittens holds his pinky finger out ever so daintily when he sips his tory brew, too.
Hmmmmm. Think the Tea Party has something to say about that.
It’s called lying for God.
Oh good! We finally got a Tea Party Romney.
One does so enjoy the flavor of the week.
What’s next week? Taxachusetts Liberal?
Oh dear. Now I can’t decide whether we don’t exist anymore, or we exist but I’ve been wrong about the tea party all along and it’s really Romney who personifies our ideals.
Romney's first Tea Party speech was Labor Day, September 5th 2011. Only took him 3 years to figure out something was going on. And now he's claiming exclusivity? What a maroon! I can't believe it.
The man is a walking, opportunistic hypocrite.....a festering dunghill of ignorance and liberal depravity. Ooh, wait, am I overstating it? Um, let me think.....Nah, no I'm not.
Delusional to say the least.
Pretty sure Romney is a clinical sociopath. Sociopaths make up about 4% of the population, mostly males, and attracted to positions of power, so that isn’t as strong a statement as it appears.
He is too good at throwing out vague-sounding red meat, just too good. You do have to be on guard and not fall for the empty sentiment during debates.
He appears to be extremely cool-headed and calm, even during the tough questions and emergency situations... until someone dares to pose a personal threat in his path to the ultimate power, and then his anger, his urge to humiliate rises, and becomes all too palpable. Such personal threats to ego, “coincidentally,” is one of the few ways to invoke strong emotions in a sociopath.
Last I heard, Mormons don’t drink tea.
Heh, well if that is that case, he has lost already!
Well, if Mitt says it’s so, then Mitt says it’s not so, tomorrow.
Now if you don’t believe he was fooling and lying to you before, this proves it.
The idea came from a post that Santorum’s major donor, Thompson, had close connections with Romney. It was all laid out, but heaven knows where that post is now. Didn’t think it relavant enough to keep at the time. Now wish I had. One of those things that makes a person go HMMMMM.
It may indeed be a way of dividing the conservative vote, or it may be that this Thomposon characters knows Romney and wants to make sure he doesn’t get the nomination.
Hearing Sanatorum attack Romney, wonder if he even knows about the connection between the two.
Who knows?
