This is all the fault of George W. Bush and the GOP House leadership. Steve King and other conservatives fought to have the outdated, absurd Federal oversight of former segregation states from the 1965 Voting Rights Act removed, as well as removing the 5% requirement for bi-lingual ballots (at the jurisdictions’ expense - unfunded mandate). But the House leadership killed the amendements, and Bush signed a disgusting, un-American, 25 YEAR EXTENSION (there had previously been 5- and 10-year extensions of it). So now the Feds can tell every Southern state their business, citing “racism”, “disenfranchisement”, and “discrimination”. Despicable.

Bingo and what we get for electing “conservatives” like Nixon, Bush I & II and...

Another horrible move by political geniuses like Rove.

Quite right on the DC control of the formerly DemoCrap controlled southern states.

I lived in Baton Rouge for several years (just in time for Katrina and Rita). I drove past the busing depot every morning going to work. Some of these kids (mostly black) spent 4 hours a day in transit on a bus - maybe more when all the downtime is aggregated. How did that help the education of these kids? Well of course it didn't and it prevented their parent(s) from participating in their child’s school and the kids didn't go to the same school as their neighbors.

A federal judge presided over this travesty for 50 years and it was resolved swiftly after his retirement. Pure evil if you as me.
