Vote Count in GOP Caucus Continuing in Nevada’s Largest County [#of ballots differ in #of voters]

The voting ended half a day ago. The networks have called the race. The GOP presidential candidates have delivered their speeches and left the state.

And, still, party officials in Nevada’s largest county continue to count the vote.

“We are going to get this right,” Clark County Chairman David Gibbs told the Las Vegas Sun today. “If it takes us a little bit of time to get it rights, we are going to take the time.”

Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney was declared the victor of the Nevada caucuses Saturday evening, based on results from the rest of the state and entrance polls conducted by major media organizations.

With 70 percent of the vote counted, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich was in second place, with U.S. Rep. Ron Paul trailing in third by just shy of 1,000 votes.

After working until 4 a.m. Sunday, a handful of a volunteers resumed working through boxes of paper ballots this morning, verifying the vote count done at each precinct nearly 24 hours ago.

County party officials were unwilling to release the numbers from the precinct counts until each ballot was certified. And they are doing it all by hand.

“We want to make sure the count at the precinct was accurate,” Gibbs said.

With just half of the vote counted, officials have already discovered some discrepancies. In some precincts, the number of ballots did not match the number of voters who signed in to participate in the caucus.

70 percent of the vote counted, Gingrich was in second place, with U.S. Rep. Ron Paul trailing in third by just shy of 1,000 votes. --They rival for second.

Back to FL: A Ron Paul supporter has filed a lawsuit against the Newt Gingrich campaign, claiming a security officer for the GOP presidential hopeful stomped on his foot “like he was stomping out a cigarette,” the AP reported.

Edward Dillard, a central Florida resident, said his foot was fractured in the Tuesday incident, which took place on the day of the state’s primary.

According to the AP, Dillard was wearing a Paul T-shirt and holding a sign at a Gingrich campaign stop in Orlando when a “swarm” of security guards surrounded him, one stomping on his foot while he was wearing open sandals.

Just how hard is it to count the caucus votes?? This is very funny in a weird sort of way. These people telling us they are stupid or something? Each precinct is mostly very small, count the votes before they leave, certify them before they leave, register the votes, send them on. (Unless they are seeking different results.)

Count again at the HQs.,how hard is it to COUNT? Just do away with caucuses, which it seems is never a true indication how the majority of people would vote, some people are just not interested in going into the little click groups and voice an opinion.

But one bit of humor, they all still have until April 15th to do their taxes, well maybe.

Think of it as two recent stories rolled into 1 as I lead into Florida caucus timeframe in the second paragraph.

Newt and Paul have become close in fighting for #2 spot..so the fire is getting a little hot! Newt fans dislike Paul's and vv. If in fac, the story is true. Newt fans on Twitter are calling the alleged stomping and physical contact by security a lie. Want to see proof. Paul side wants an apology.

Caught some media person tweet chatter yesterday saying Paul fans felt votes could be skeptical. Today's story pops up they are matching votes # to voters # as too many votes.

Both candidates are 1000 apart. Happened with Romney and Santorum after the fact.

How in this day and age can there be so many screw-ups in the voting process?

When the largest county hasn't even been tallied and Romney is the winner, something could appear to be very strange.

Romney was declared a winner in Iowa and look what happened.
8 precincts in Iowa voting numbers went missing.

At least the chairman in Iowa has decided to step down.
Since 2000, we really have gone down hill when it comes to counting the votes.
And thats shameful.

Might as well adopt left wing tactics along with the left wing candidate I guess. The next four years are going to be bad, but the demise of the GOP will be some recompense.

Yes it is shameful, and each state should be embarrassed and shunned. Shame, Shame, Shame.

My state uses the machines, very easy to use, very quick to get the count, no nonsense. Of course we are a primary state, and not the archaic method of caucuses.

Caucuses never seem to draw out voters in large numbers, think this is by design? hmmmm. maybe. A lot of people just don't go because they are tired of all the speeches, pandering and argueing. Not sure if I would attend such a thing. Most people just want to get in, VOTE and get out, better things to do than listen to some EGO's speak for 2 or 3 hours.

In some precincts, the number of ballots did not match the number of voters who signed in to participate in the caucus.

Could be human error--the where do I sign in scenario? If you attend a caucus for the first time-it can be confusing. You rally, speeches.. then go to your towns room of that county, which means someone might not be there, people sticking their heads in to wonder why the room is dark and no one there to meet you and also find there is another gathering later someplace else.

They sign new voters up when a person enters, but that is actually for first time caucus. So that can be easily misinterpreted. Plus you can be there for hours. Maybe it is me but I don't think I fall on the idiot side.[not requesting comment]

It is not well organized.

My take on it.

#9..and then they read out the steps to follow I and II and III and IV etc what is required, what is all expected of you..ah do I want to commit to all this you ask... people pretending not to be confused, but you can tell they are--plus earlier they gave you a map.

It's a mess..and you will have to spend your afternoon there. However the rally is timed but that starts late..the food is free, so you begin to count how many times his woman has sauntered over to the food table during the rally to fill up her plate of donut holes, cookies and sweets, a carrot and celery; so your mind wanders, whether she is well fed at home..plus for the most part in all these counties the candidate does not show up by sends a person who decides to send another person at the last minute. One speaker was good, the rest you could not hear etc or had poor scripts.

Then go back to my previous comment.. ...will not say how this story ended.

I watched and the press would not take excuses, they wondered why he was not talking about the issues but making excuses--he said you do not want to hear the issues as the questions you ask are not on them. That one I gave to Newt.

The only time he started to smile was when he was asked about the game, he came back said who he thought would win-the Giants- although he does not like the Giants--and one reporter said--well that didnt win votes in NY. [laughs]

Newt losing weight?

News twitter back and forth on the scene said Romney, guests up at The Donalds penthouse and all were celebrating with milk shakes--no hangovers in the morning the reporter suggested.

American Idol voting etc. is in better shape than our voting process.

It is just crazy in 2012 to have so much trouble like this. But like our public school system, they don’t want to fix it because then they can’t screw with it...plain as day to me.

What food? What drinks?

At 8am, we were herded in cafeteria type rooms with end to end picnic tables and told to stay at the table our precinct # was located. The calamity was almost laughable. The caucus was to start at 9am but nothing started happening until around 9:45 We were finished in by 10:15 with people rushing out, after handing their little blue ballot to the precinct Chairperson. I have said before, most the chair people were mittbots. and i was just watching them all gather up the ballots while the watcher was still standing there with the blue blank ballots. The disorganization, made Clark County Ripe for Fraud yesterday.

I have already mentioned all the crap that happened at that caucus location (in Clark county) so I won't go into more detail, except to say, if you go on any caucus site and read the rules.. you can with confidence, know for a fact, none of those were observed in Clark County!

I’m for the primary process too. Machines with a receipt of what vote you just cast. Interesting article I found while looking at the problem in NV.

That is so funny, I went back to read Post #9 as well. Perfect description of what I was trying to say. What a waste of a good afternoon of something productive or enjoyable.

Those people trying not to look CONFUSED, but you know they are, ROFL, good one and you know its true. Look bubba, I'm going to do my civic duty and the foods free, hope they don't ask me nuttin'.

I never liked PTA or City Council meetings as well, and for much the same reason, someone always thinks they have some stupid grivience about something and think the whole world needs to hear it, or I demand this and you pay for it, or else, types. My neighbor has his fence 1/2 inch on my property, whatcha gonna do bout it, types. Rofl.

At City Council meetings they get to be on TV as well, hahahahahahahaha, did ya see me, mom?

So Paul beat Mitt in Clark County it seems.

How can voters want to stay so archaic? Guess it all depends on how you intend to cheat and cook the votes, easy with caucuses.

What about Mo., seems its a primary which won't count, then a caucus which will count, what the hell is that? My gosh, I don't know what world I'm living on anymore.

What ever happened to the expression "KISS", keep it simple stupid.
