Mitt Romney Wins Overwhelming Victory In Nevada Caucuses

Dan Balz February 4

LAS VEGAS — Mitt Romney won an overwhelming victory in Saturday’s Nevada caucuses, giving the former Massachusetts governor his second consecutive victory of the year as he tightened his claim to dominant front-runner status in what had been a turbulent Republican presidential race.

After his easy victory in Florida last Tuesday, Romney’s big win in Nevada, where he also won four years ago, will provide additional momentum heading to Tuesday’s caucuses in Colorado and Minnesota and set him up for more significant primaries in Michigan and Arizona at the end of the month. The outcome will increase pressure on his rivals to demonstrate how and where they plan to stop him, if they can.

Romney was far ahead of his closest rivals. Former House speaker Newt Gingrich and Rep. Ron Paul (Tex.) were battling for second place. Former Pennsylvania senator Rick Santorum was running fourth. Turnout was far below the primaries in Florida, South Carolina or New Hampshire and less than in Iowa’s caucuses.

As Romney celebrated his third victory in five contests, his rivals vowed to continue fighting. But the upcoming calendar provides those chasing Romney with significant few opportunities for victory in coming weeks. Gingrich and Santorum each would like to take on Romney without the other draining off conservative votes but neither has shown any interest in bowing to the other. Paul demonstrated again in Nevada that he can do well in caucus states with limited turnout but has yet to show real strength in a big state.

The first weeks of the Republican race have played out at the pace of a sprint. But the primary-caucus calendar slows to a walk in February, before resuming with a flurry of contests on March 6, this...

Overwhelming??

Only in the eyes of a liberal "journalist". Either he is easily impressed, or just propagandizing.

Well, they do finally mention the huge Mormon vote, but not until you call up the second page of the article. Not unlike sticking it in the back page of a newspaper, which most readers won’t bother with.

Paul has been running for president forever...how many times? one thing I will say about Paul is ...his supporters are true to him.

It showed the Jan 16th interview with Hannity in Myrtle Beach, SC. Santorum is devoted to attacking Newt...no big campaign ads against Romobama?

“A few years ago I debated moving to Nevada for work in construction.’

Wife was offered a position with Clark County schools, and I got offered an executive position at a now-defunct Las Vegas-based airline at the same time.

THANK GOD we decided not to make the move.

I don’t think Fla was such an easy victory for Willard as he had to spend $18 million to smear Gingrich in order to do it. Nevada is only about 28 delegates and it looks like Newt will come in 2nd so he will a portion of those delegates. Mitt is not going to find the deep south as accomodating as Fla. on March 6th.

Overwhelmingly? Willard got 51% of Nevada vote in 2008 compared to 12% for McCain.

Unless his current percentage rises, it looks like yet another state where he is going to get a lower percentage of the vote than he did four years ago.

Obama is the opponent. The negative ads should be directed at what has happened in the past 3+ years.

Since when is 37% overwhelming?”

Since that 37% will translate in to hundreds of hours of media repeating the meme over and over, you tell me.

More importantly, you’ll note that of 55,000 people in Carson County, only 1,500 turned out at the caucus?

***

Holy crap. Democrats will be licking their chops at these “overwhelming” numbers!

["Few Opportunities" For Rivals To Catch Up?]

I guess it's time to hope for a successful political "Hail Mary Pass" from Gingrich (or if your a bit meaner), hope Willard gets caught with a dead women or a live boy. Short of those two or divine intervention, it looks like Willard gonna get it.

Let me see if I understand this...

In 2008, Romney won Nevada with 51%. Ron Paul was 2nd place with under 14%. The eventual nominee, McCain, came third with around 13%.

Right now AP reports Romney has just 43%, Newt has 26% (but should drop out because it's all over), Ron Paul has 18% and Santorum 13%.

If Romney can't match of exceed his 2008 votes in Nevada, what's that say for his electability?

Considering the number of Mormons in Nevada and the number of moderates, is anyone really surprised by this?

Yup, and Mormons are like sheep, follow the leader. If Mormons had their way the official church of America would be LDS and everyone will be required to be a member and follow me me me me

Mitt Romney won an overwhelming victory in Saturday’s Nevada caucuses, giving the former Massachusetts governor his second consecutive victory of the year as he tightened his claim to dominant front-runner status in what had been a turbulent Republican presidential race.

While there is a lot of cheerleading by the DBM about Myth, psychologically, it has to be eating at Newt. It is certainly eating at me. Many people, myself included, are likely to be unable to vote in November if Romney wins the nomination.

With zero, we know we are going to be cast to the wolves. Romney is just Obama-lite. Either way, we're going to end up in the same place, Romney just won't get us there as fast as zero.

What is more disturbing is to see zero and his cronies increasingly chipping away not only at our freedoms, but at the very future of America. The America we grew up in will not exist for our kids and grandkids. If they are lucky, they'll end up with an America something like France. If they're unlucky, they'll end up with an America something like Mexico.

Prior to the '08 election, I posted that our government was irreparaby broken. I was told that I was stupid and that it could still be fixed. 4 years later, it has become obvious to more people that our government is broken, but they still think they can fix it at the ballot box. IMO, the only one planning to fix anything at the ballot box is Obama, the boy king.

If we cannot turn the tide for Newt and overwhelm Romney and force him to capitulate by or before the convention, America will cease to exist except as a broken down shadow of itself. A lot of people don't like Newt. But, with the field we currently have, he is the best choice there is. If Romney wins the nomination, Obama wins re-election because Romney is beatable and Obama knows it. That's why he and the DBM have been pushing Romney as the "front-runner" for over a year before there was ANY runner. I have always said, DON'T listen to the words, LOOK at the actions. Actions always have and always will speak far LOUDER than words. Politicians lie and the more eloquent the lie, the better the voters like it. Look at Romney's actions as a politicians over the years and look at Newt's actions as a politician over the years.

So, either we double down and get the Newt voters to the primaries, or we toss our future in the rubbish.

Appalling stupid statement considering it is easier to buy a six pack of beer in Utah than in Pennsylvania where LDS influence is near zero.

Talk about stupid, the Mormons has a robust missionary system in America and throwout the world. The entire Mormon program is to convert every person on the earth which included the dead. Dumb comparison.

Stoopid.

He got an apportioned amount of votes as did the other candidates.

So he got a number more than any other candidate.

Still, he got less than all the other candidates.

See? Open ended Math question...
